I think, no mather that it was townshend who wrote quadrophenia, Johns bass lines on that album stands almost as high as the songs on that album, and IMO, its the best album ever made.
John have actually made me want to learn to play Horn or trumpet or a brass instrument of somekind.

that Master Class dvd is kind of interesting. i got a copy, and started to watch it, but i only got part way through. but, what i did see has become quite helpful for playing 8th notes with my fingers. i do agree that Quadrophenias basslines are THE best on earth.
this is post 300! we need 85 more pages, so keep'em coming!

As we are mainly 3 guys posting here, i think that will take some time :p

I havent started on the real me yet.. maby i should, Wont get fooled again is amazingly fun to play (i have kinda ripped of the bass line and added it to a band im playing with right now :p)

i can sorta play WGFA right now, but i should work on it more so that people dont think im Sid Vicious or someone like that who sucks. i am changing my Sig after i post this. that might help us some.

Thank you Moogboy, for taking the time to read my post, and for your kind words about it.

Yeah, Spider is quite the cool cat (attitude-wise, he's more rocker than mod...) and I'd love to post a photo of him here. I've had no luck trying to shrink down my images to the website's parameters so if anyone can offer any technical advice I'd appreciate it.

I feel the same way you do Moogboy, about not seeing John and never being able to. My bass-related dreams include learning several of John's tunes--and my bass instructor had me compile a CD specifically of his music that he'd help me work on. The CD is a mix of both his solo and Who basslines. "The Real Me" is the pinnacle I hope to reach. So far, I've been working on "Boris the Spider" and "Slip Kid."

I agree with you completely about Quadrophenia being a phenomenal album and John's bass and brass contributions make it stand it out. I hope you pursue learning a brass instrument.

Its just the mather of time and the fact that im trying to learn guitar and keyboard while keeping my main time on the bass ;) So brass will have to wait until i can pull of average stuff on keyboard and guitar(Here is Pete doing a very good job :p).

Anyway, im with you on the never get to see John live, that would have been a dream come true, just to bad at the time they where rambling around with him i was not intrested in music at all, ill beat my self and blame my mother for not getting me in to music earlier.. then i might have gotten to see John!

that is my second favorite John era. the first is when he was using a 'Slab' P-Bass like at Monterey Pop and in the promo vid for My Generation. everytime i think about the Isle Of Wight Festival i want a Skeleton suit even more. i hate GAS.

My favourite era of Johns is the last one, i simply love the tone, the bass and the guy on L.A.R.A.H... IMO he looked much cooler and classy at older (well, from e got the beard, around Tommy? :p) before that i think he looked rather.. like he thought he was better than others..

my Bass dreams are: learn The Real Me, Doctor Jimmy, The Punk And The Godfather, 5:15, Wont Get Fooled Again, and many other Who songs. Boris was the VERY first song that i learned all the way through, and i played it in front of 20 people. they thought that i was crazy and i new that all of them werent paying attention, so i played a short bit and said 'alright, you aint payin attention and i put my stuff away. i have learned the Saxophone and the whole reason i picked Sax was because when i switched schools they had 10 Clarinets. my dad asked me if i wanted to try a different instrument. i said yes, and i am not looking back.

i beat myself daily for not getting into Bass before John died. Pete has been a huge influence on me as well. i am always trying to perfect all of the jumps that he did with the Who. i also play Guitar and Keys (keys... sorta) and my second guitar is an SG styled guitar that was made by Squier a while ago, and i just had that thing professionally setup. WOW. that made a HUGE difference. maybe now i will be able to play Lead Guitar at home.

that era was the John that i was introduced to first. the tone at that point was very good, imo, the distortion didnt suck like most bassists distortion does. my favorite John Tone was the one that sounded like a Synth. i know that the Vegas Job has that tone on it, and i think his solo bands live recordings had that tone as well.

wait, hold on, YOU have to clean the house? that sucks. the collaborations were pretty boring, in most cases. the 'Kennedy' guy ruined the violin part to Bab O'Riley, and i think that Pete saved the song from him before he came on, meaning the 'F*** OFF part made the song go to a totally new height of awesomeness, taking attention away from the bad violin solo.
