What pre are using in your live rig btw? Why not use that STT-1 as part of the live rig? Just curious..

I have never been able to hear an El Whappo, myself, but the low end on the Gordo is noticably deeper than the Whappo, Jr. I like it a lot. It is not meant to be used as a standalone cab, though. My thoughts are to use it in conjunction with the Jr., and power the Jr. with a tube amp, and the Gordo with a SS amp, thereby combining the best of both tube and SS worlds (hopefully!).

hmm, I wished I coulda a/b'd the Gordo & Grande that I had. I didn't care for the 21" deal(IMHO) & I've had better results with 18's & 15's in very low tunings(G-G#). I sold my Whappo & still have my Beyma loaded Mesa Diesel 1x 18 & 2x15's(Eminence) to do my sub-destruction on the masses...

PS: I'd still LOVE to try a Bill Dickens sub, they look great!

The Gordo is quite managable, weight wise. I'm not sure as to the exact poundage, though.

As for the Tri 210L being the loudest 2x10 I have heard, I really don't know. It is a very full sounding cab (much like ACME), but is certainly more efficient (and thereby louder) than the Low B-2 (which is probably no surprise). But as for "loudest", I would have to experiment a bit more. I recently picked up a Bergantino HT210 that seems to be very efficient and very loud, though I haven't really pushed it. And then there is the EA VL-210B, which seems to be able to take whatever you can throw at it (power wise) and still beg for more. I know that I have never surpassed the volume that I could get from two VL-210's with my PLX 3002 in bridged mono (3,000 watts), and they are even louder with the CA9!

But the Tri 210L is a very big, full, and loud 2x10. I just haven't tried pushing it to its limits yet.

Thanks Joel. The pre for the live rig is the Raven Labs USIP. It's a stereo pre with each channel going to an El Whappo. The mono out is going to the Grande.

The reason I don't use the STT-1 for the live rig, is because I'm using it in my home studio to record - it would be a pain in the ass (not to mention uninspiring) to keep lugging it between rehearsals and putting all the connections in. Although, if I had 2 (one can dream) then I would definitely be using it for the band rehearsals/live. I'll probably be using the home rig for the occasional solo show whenever that time comes.

I didn't get a chance to A/B them, but I haven't heard anything yet that compares to the STT-1.

Just thought I'd drop a note in about my TRI210L.
I have been running a new power amp with the cab, a Yamaha P5000. This one is quite a beast, giving around 750Watts RMS per channel.

I had been running the cab full range and seeing a fair amount of cone excursion.. but by golly it was loud.. as an experiment, on the back of the P5000 there is a variable crossover for SUB/Hi pass. WOH! what a nice surprise! even setting the crossover as low as 25Hz high pass there has been a drastic reduction in cone excursion but no *real* loss of bottom end in the TRI. how cool is that? Less excursion gives me more headroom and less need for hard compression. My 7 string bottom end is still the same with this cab but, less woolly.. I am clearer than a clear day in clearsville now!

Maybe one day channel 2 will go to Mr El Whappo, of Thunder Street, Thunderton.

High pass filters can be your friend, that's for sure! That is a nice feature to have on your amp. I am glad that your Tri 210L is working out well for you!
