They'll be CB Basses built based on JP's designs. And they'll be killer I'm sure.

So, in the end it's not going to matter if a CB JP is equal to a JP JP. There ARE NO MORE JP BASSES since he quit building them.

I think some are taking Mark's question negatively when it actually draws no conclusion, rather asks "Will it be different?

I see what he's getting at and can understand how that question would be raised. Not that a new CB JP will be better, worse or otherwise. Then again, the idea that a CB JP will be "better" seems like jumping the gun too... no one's seen one yet;)

Keep in mind, there are lots of supposedly better Fender Jazz copies out there... that don't measure up to the original in many minds:D

Give two builders the same design and even the same electronics and you can still end up with different results. Those intangibles are what separates one builder form the next.

Like Mark, I'll say that this isn't slight on either builder, just an obvious observation IMO. I'm looking forward to them, just as I look forward to everything Cliff's built. I'm guessing Cliff will be selecting raw materials and that's a very personal thing. No two people see two pieces of wood exactly the same. I think JP also had his own pickups/electronics, will that continue?

Well yes I was serious....

Cliff and I have a gentlemen agreement on do / won't do stuff. the goal is to keep doing things the way I did them.

JP Pickups will still be available and standard. Not sure about preamps yet.

JP Headstock. Remember Cliff will be building the JP basses designs.
Right now we thought about keeping the JP logo and having a "built by cliff bordwell" logo on the headstock back.

Yeah, I have been wanting something like a Pedulla Buzz, but in 35" scale, ash wings instead of solid maple, side dots in every position (pretty much my standard on a fretless), Bartolini PJ, hipshot D tuner, bird's eye maple fingerboard (gonna send to Pedulla for coating), bird's eye maple top.

Originally I was gonna have Peavey build me a Cirrus with these specs....BUT their price came to 5k! ***?! I don't think so! Since Peavey kinda fudged a few details on my last one, I wasn't going to fork out that kind of money. I was already talking to Cliff about ordering a fanned fret 7....so why not apply the same specs to a CB fretless 4. Good idea!!!

Of course, we have a few ideas that I'll keep classified for the sake of suspense. ;)

Sounds cool.

I also had a few ideas floating around for a CB, but now I think I'll be after a JP model as I'd always intended to get one before he stopped building.

This will be a fun and exciting project.
Thanks to everyone for the kind words!

The goal, in every aspect is to recreate JP's ideas the best that I can. Both JP and I want these to accurately represent JP's ideas that have always gone into his basses. The basses won't be my construction methods in JP basses shapes.

I'm not the greatest with words, but I would like to say there is a mutual trust between JP and I... and I will always strive to make the best basses possible.
