JPBasses to be built by Cliff Bordwell!

With all due respect, why would you deny a cutomer's custom requests just to hold the line on what you like? Surely someone might not hold true to your idea of a fine instrument and then you might have reason to disagree, but as long as the customer's wishes are not outlandish, then why not accommodate him? Is a 3-band preamp and gold hardware that big of a deal? If a pro bassist is looking for that setup why wouldn't try to accommodate? Surely this is up to Cliff, but it seems as though those requests would offend you. I would love to see you humor your customers a bit more--at least with electronics and hardware. The rest of the design should be relatively decided already.

I don't mean to speak for JP here, but as I understand he built these basses not as a primary income but because he loved it. When something goes beyond a business and serves as a creative outlet as these basses did, it seems perfectly reasonable to me to do things the way you as the builder feel is "right". There are plenty of luthiers that will do just about whatever you want - far beyond hardware and electronics. The stipulations set out by JP helped to define what those basses were (and presumably will be under Cliff's hands) :)

I couldn't have said it better. Thanks Jeff.

Dave, sorry I couldn't reply earlier but I don't spend all day on TB. Jeff got it. I sticked to my receipe because that's what I developped and it works the way I intended it to work. Things will remain this way.
