I got clued into this on a thread I made in search for dirt pedals that sweeten fingerstyle playing without getting farty-
holy moly does the Jive pull it off and more.. for those who don't know it is a "reel saturator" I guess sim? It's supposed to warm up your tone and make it Ooeygooey, and also it has some clipping diodes if you want some real dirt.
I was prepared for it to have a rounded high end, maybe a sweet amount of harmonic distortion, but to be perfectly honest I expected to be selling it pretty quickly because I got several petals that are working for me after the thread I mentioned.. instead this one is going on the board as a TRUE always-on
Not only that, but as much as I don't tend to be looking for a hard clipping, virtually every corner of settings sound fantastic, and it's truly unbelievable how good it sounds with a bunch of gain and clipping diode's with my semihollow Ibanez..
unbelievably fat old school sound
I also wanted to add, and mods please tell me if this is not OK, but it is currently on sale from the manufacturer for ~$85 on reverb. Came with some cool goodies, and I think they literally included a PCB of the circuit, or maybe some kind of DIY circuit almost as a business card
I also ALSO wanted to add that I ordered direct from them on reverb, and they're in Germany. They shipped out pretty much immediately, but as you can imagine it took some time to get here… it was about five weeks through a combination of DHL and USPS- I think if you contact them they will ship it a faster method if you desire, but my real point is this: I was a really annoying customer, with everything from a variety of questions to asking if various parts of the delay are "normal" all the way to my package having shipping damage, and them being extremely responsive and helpful about it.
I can't recommend this company enough, and I can't recommend this pedal enough at all..
there are a couple of videos on YouTube about the Jive, and they sound fine but it's hard to capture just 'nice tone' in a video like that, so let me assist by saying that IF YOU'RE ON AN ALMOST CLICHE QUEST FOR 'SWEET' TONE, OR YOU'VE ALWAYS READ ABOUT HAVING A 'BIT OF HAIR' BUT EVERYTHING IS EITHER TOO DIRTY OR TOO CLEAN, THEN TRY THIS ONE
