JPTR Jive NPD

I, too, own two. I originally bought it to see if it would warm up my banjo/mando sound. Check. Then I decided to try it on my bass, and it sounded so great I had to have one on each board. Always on, just below the clip, no switches engaged.
I would love to support him and buy another pedal or two, but since I'm not a metal guy, he doesn't currently have any other options I would find useful.

the scratchy gain control is part of the circuit design (it's based on the zvex SHO). it's a variable bias on the gain stage. on the zvex pedal it says "crackle ok" on that pot.
Interesting, so its a mosfet stage? I've been meaning to open it up.
It feels like a dumb question, but is it 'intended' to drive and clip itself in that case? I had been avoiding it because I weirdly assumed it was an op amp thing, and I like it fat and clean anyway, and the diode options sound nice.. perhaps I need to re explore just driving it hard again.

I have a Jive and use it as an always on just at the bit of break sound. I removed my mxr comp to fit it in my little jam board. I love it, it's got a nice flavour. Yesterday I ordered the Tesla Wolf v2 from jptr, I hope I like that too.
Man I feel so dumb- when I first tested it I hated how it clipped with high gain / no diodes, so I'd been assuming it was an op amp circuit and was meant to either be clean and fat or to clip the diodes… turns out it was just clipping a bypass buffer downstream.
It sounds, predictably, stupidly good driven by itself.. glad you chimed in on this, no telling how long it would have been before I opened the pedal to peak at the circuit
I just recently got mine and absolutely love the warmth of this pedal sounds amazing in front of my ampeg opto comp. How ever I am have trouble with a feedback/hiss even with gain at lowest setting. Has anyone else had the same problem or is it something will just have to put up with?
I had problems with noise with a cheaper power supply (or maybe with the power filter I had it plugged into) depending on a few things it was anywhere from a buzz/hiss to a whistle/whine
try a different power supply and maybe even different outlet just to be sure
fyi the cheap supply I had problems with was the OEM Source audio wall wart, so it's not like it was a $.07 Chinese Amazon special. No problems since then on my Voodoo or even my regular old 1spot
I'm hesitant to offer this with johnk floating around here, but a single transistor topology will be more susceptible to bad power supplies compared to op amps.. similar to why fdeck switched to Op amps for the HPF pre that could be adapter-powered .. Common mode noise rejection becomes something to battle a bit

i have an older SA power supply that had some noise issues too.
i use 1spot power supplies most of the time although i do have my first one that creates noise with some pedals. my two others have zero issues with all of my pedals including my JPTR Jive and Jive clone.
No problem with my OneSpot. If I run off the 9v output of my rechargeable battery block, I get unpleasant noises; it's fine off the 12v output. So yeah, it may be slightly finicky with anything less than a robust 9v.
I had a carman 9v wall supply adapter that was really bad and the guy at local music store recommended a onespot 9v wall supply, it's definitely not as bad as the cheaper one I had but still very noticeable especially with abit of gain and tone knobs wide open.
While we're at it, I find this thing to be absolutely titanic at 18v.. there's this wide open bottomless quality that knocks my socks off.. I do quite like the headroom clipping point at 9v though.. I may consider making it switchable but ugh
Yeah, I'd see if you have different results in a different part of the house- less gear involved, yada yada. See if you can establish if it's just plain noisy of if it's just the gain accentuating some other noise.
Anybody has an experience with double jive? How does it work. What I don't get is four inputs/outputs....

I've got one coming. It's no different than having 2 separate Jives. I'm pretty sure you need a small patch cord between the 2 channels if you want to use them together, but I think typical use is using it at 2 different points in your chain, or in stereo. I already have a normal size one, I ordered this one for possible stereo use.
I see. So in order to use as a two channel overdrive (taht's what I plan), I would need to connect it with a short cable...
Does it feature one power input or two?

Has this arrived Derek?? How is it? I too own a Jive and am looking at the Jive evil, possibly ordering today. I am interested in using them both on with very low gain as a more/bigger tape effect on my sound.
Other purchases came up (I'm looking at you, Origin DCX), so I cancelled the double Jive. I already own a normal Jive, so no big loss. I only cancelled a couple weeks ago though, so not sure if I would have it yet anyways.
Aye yeh one jive is probably enough just super curious about having two. Origin not a bad purchase instead to be fair! I think I'm going to take a punt... After all I am a massive sucker for always on pedals! Haha
