I'll definitely try both ways. I have MBD-2 at a medium-ish dirt level, but I'm still playing around with it a bit. It's a fantastic pedal for sure! I might use Jive after MBD, especially if I go 12V or 18V for higher headroom, to boost the overall signal volume and get some slight extra character. Or I'll use it as a slightly dirty boost into the MDB-2 (maybe at 9V) like you said. Both options are open right now

I had a Barbershop which was great as a slightly dirty boost at 9V, but I'm currently building my pedalboard low row with top jack pedals. I liked what I heard from Jive (both dirty and less dirty tones), and the price was nice, so I feel like it can easily do what I had my Barbershop do.
