JR White plays a Squier

This is from a Pitchfork Special Presentation, a few live videos of the band, Girls. They are fantastic. And the bassist gigs a Squier.

At around 1:45 you can clearly confirm it for yourself.

These CV and VM Squier's aren't f@$!ing around.

Anyone know of other successful/big name bands that use them?

wow thanks for posting this, i really enjoyed that tune, ive never heard of this group - they're great. and i love the sound of the squier.. they're really making some quality stuff. love my VM to bits =] but i really pine for that CV fiesta red P bass!

EDIT: im watching some more of them and I love they way they use the backup vocalists in the music

Didn't listen to the track (computer acting up with audio/video) but I think it's neat that there are bigger acts out there using Squiers. There are Squier signature models, but those are mostly for Fender users, and who usually continue using their Fenders. Couldn't think of anyone off the top of my head who gigs a Squier, other than a big group of TBers.

it has a nice thump to it.
looks like he's using an old acoustic 450 bass head with it too.

... into an Ampeg 610??

... FWIW, I have owned probably 3 or 4 CV Jazz's since they came out (for whatever reason) .. all were decent, and very consistent with each other .. with that said, I just picked another up that absolutely rivals any Fender that I have ever owned, and I have owned several American Fenders from the 60's, 70's, 90's and 00's ... of course, strings and set-up play a major part, and my memory is probably a bit weak in my aging state, but I think you get the intent of my comment ... I would not be afraid to take this bass on stage anywhere at any time, the only people that would consider it odd would be those that haven't gotten over what it says on the headstock yet ... JMHO

I've had that same experience. I've played Jazz Basses for over 30 years and the CV I bought rivals any MIA Standard I've ever owned. These things are actually greater competition for those than the MIM models IMO. I'm not having one bit of reservation about using it on gigs or in the studio.

As popular as they've become I'm curious to see whether or not the pricing remains as low as it is.

Definitely not my style, but a nice bass sound indeed. Pretty cool that he uses a Squier. I have two- a 2001 Standard Special Precision V (5er with Jazz electronics) and a 2002 Affinity P. Both sound and feel great.

With new pickups (GASing for Nordstrand Big Splits), I could see myself owning the 5er for quite a long time. Love me some Squier!!

I'll tell you what, I've never played a Squier that I didn't like. J's or P's they're all round quality instruments for their price. I've got a Jazz Squier at the moment that I've just chucked a pair of Basslines Quarter Pounds in and she plays just as good as any MIM Fender that I've played. All up I've paid less that $400 for it ($200 second hand + $180 for the pickups / installation).

I used to have a 60's CV P-bass like the one in the video but with the sky blue finish, she reminded me of an old EK Holden.

Wow. I immediately ordered their new CD "Father, Son, Holy Ghost" What an impressive sound. I am assuming that was recorded live?

Also goes to prove that you can spend as much money as makes you happy for your bass but the Squier (especially the CV) is more than enough instrument to perform or record with.
