Jule Amps Monique Part 2.

So I've only been able to give it a quick whirl in the home studio. At one point my son came and closed the door because I was rattling the windows.

Tonally I don't notice a difference between Minnie and running the Puma 900 power section but I haven't done a direct A/B (maybe later tonight). I will say that Minnie is built like a tank (like Monique) but is light. Seems like James built some afterburner into the master volume taper. The amp has plenty of juice turned low, but it comes on like a freight train after about 3:00 (unlike many amps that essentially have nothing after noon).

I'm tracking Thu/Sat and not sure if I'm running direct (out of Monique) or running a cab - haven't talked with the producer yet. Sunday I have an outdoor gig so Minnie will get her live baptism then.

After doing an A/B with Minnie and the Puma power section I take back what I said - they sound different. The Puma has a bit more edge, Minnie is a bit rounder. Subtle but I hear a difference. In addition Minnie has a lower noise floor at equivalent volumes.

The Rob Allen sounds flat out gorgeous through this combination. The YYD sounds nasty in a good way (part of that is the Baer), the MGS is sweeter. Need to get it on a gig though...

I am aware that some of the delay getting these first Minnies out the door was because James was doing his magic lowering that noise floor. I like to think that the low noise of Monique encouraged him to keep at it, but probably not. He just does good work.

Thanks to Douglas for coming to the shop today and playing his Jazz Bass into this combo. Good Day.

I saw a guy walking around Gitard Center in Commack NY last weekend carrying a Jules Monique. I saw it and didn't recognize the logo but said to myself I bet that's a Monique. I want to kick myself for not talking to the guy and asking to try it out. When do you ever get the chance to try a piece of boutique gear like that?

Funny thing, he was in the gitard section looking at combo amps.

I bet that transformer Jim is using has something to do with what you are hearing. :cool:

The Minnie looks great. Thanks for the pics. I am still deciding between the Bamboo or Dove Cage.
Did Jule ever get a matching bamboo cover made for the Minnie?
I know it is only aesthetics but my OCD drives me crazy sometimes.

The bamboo cover for the Minnie (to match the bamboo Monique enclosure) will be available March 15th. In addition to the matching look, it will have indentations on the top to accept the feet of Bamboo Monique. Just got figured out yesterday.

My admittedly inelegant solution has been velcro. The feet on Monique are fairly hard so I put velcro on them and pieces on the top of the Puma (and now on the Minnie). Can't see it when the two are together and keeps things from moving. The Puma has hard feet as well so I used a non-slip pad underneath. Minnie has softer feet and doesn't have a tendency to move.

I heard the installation of the power amp in the Monique does not include the jensen transformer at the front of the power section, only the Demeter pres do. I assumed the Minnie did not have one as well. Can someone confirm?

Either way that minnie/dove cage rig looks really nice! :cool:
