Jule Amps Monique part 4

Jule, I understand putting the rackmount in steel for studio use, but have you ever thought about a lighter aluminum version for those who just want to throw it in a rack with a poweramp and use it live? Just a thought. That would be my use.

Then it can rattle in tandem with my aluminum chassis Peavey power amp. :D Seriously though, if you're worried about chassis vibration in a studio rack setting, you should REALLY be concerned with it in a live setting on top of your amp.

Is chassis vibration the concern? From Jule's comments I had thought it was electronic interference of some sort.

Its not a concern if you don't mind it rattling all night in your ear. I isolate my rack on 3/4 inch rubber feet then about half an inch of neoprene so I don't have to hear it.

I've spent enough time in usually dark studios tracing sources of annoyance for the engineers to find it no fun at all. Putting Aluminum chassis in a rack has been the problem on several occasions.

Steel (ferrous metal) does a pretty good job of blocking magnetic fields if the steel is fairly thick, and it is the magnetic fields that are the culprits. Torroidal transformers, terribly expensive, are supposed to contain those magnetic fields so they do not interfere, but they don't really work IMHO. Good design with particular attention to placement of components is the real answer.

Aluminum is totally transparent to magnetic fields. It only stops electrostatic interference.

I like the idea of a lighter rack unit. The reality seems "iffy."

The vibration isn't the issue. I have my friend Phil Kasey do the final design confirmation on my chassis. He is the best sheet metal man in the Silicon Valley. He has kept me out of trouble for years. :)
