Look what just showed up! Beautiful packed (double box, packing peanuts, bubble wrap, etc.), nice handwritten note from Jule (classy!), and just a beautiful thing. Haven't switched it on yet... cold here, just letting it warm up a bit.

I was happy to see that Jule (and/or James) is now using the green 'dual use' speaker outputs. There are two of them. Nice.

Beautiful build quality and attention to detail, and featherweight. I'm caught up with my work (great to be your own boss and own your own company!), so will have some fun today!

Yeah, I assume this is either something new, or else the middle setting doesn't do anything. Maybe Jule will post up. Seems like there are 'updates' being done quite regularly at this point, given this is a relatively new build.

I always thought that the 'ground' should be the 'down' position anyway, then the lift should be 'up' since you're 'lifting the switch'. Its taken me a while not trust that it says what it means.

Fired it up! Very, very nice! A couple very quick observations, and then back to playing it for a while:

1) Quiet, quiet, quiet. Top notch. Zero noise... (edit: Of course, if you put your ear to the tweeter, there is a small amount of hiss, but much less than most other amps... my Glock is very quiet also... and it does not increase significantly when cranking the master). So. I guess I should say, relatively zero noise relative to signal.

2) Power... my gosh. It feels every bit the 800 watts into my 4ohm cab (Berg CN212). Very even master volume (must be some sort of audiotaper pot)... just keeps getting louder to the point of I worry about the drivers. So, for those wondering about the output of the Minnie... whew... zero issue there!

3) Tone.... I am very happy that it seems to sit in the place I was hoping it would sit. I'm VERY happy with my two primary gigging heads at this point, and the DeMonique sounds nothing like either of them. Much cleaner/brighter and more open and mid-relaxed than my Aguilar TH500, and much warmer and relaxed up top than my Glockenklang Blue Soul. I am hearing my personal definition of 'clean, all tube tone' with this head so far... perfect!

4) General build quality and attention to detail.... as good as it gets.

5) Front end controls..... can't add much there to all the other great posts. As a quick summary... EQ is very subtle (even though the controls are +/- 20db according to the manual). They do a good job tweaking the inherent tone (subtle softening of the top end, relaxing of the mids or reduction in deep bass, or vice versa). I agree with others that this is 'EQ' in the classic sense of keeping the inherent tone of the unit relatively constant in different rooms, versus any sort of 'revoicing or effect-like impact'. The 'sensitivity control' is a unique design (again, as many have posted).... very little impact on volume once you get it to around 9 o'clock, and just a subtle warming of the tone as you turn it up.... more 'tubey tubey goody goody' as you crank it, without obvious 'overdrive'. Nice, nice, nicey nice nice!

GREAT match with the CN212... punchy, deep, warm, articulate, etc, etc., etc. P Bass heaven at this point.

I have my laptop on the table in front of me in my practice space as I take this through its paces. Another thing that really shows off the pure tube tone of this unit is slapping the P with the tone control cranked a bit (i.e., relatively open treble response). That can get quite 'harsh' with a P (although my Nordy is as smooth up there as a P can get).

I can dial in quite a bit of top end response with the passive tone control on the Nordy, and there is virtually no 'gank' at all on either the thumb hits or pull-offs/plucks. Bright, present, articulate, clean, and almost the impact of a super high end studio tube compressor... takes the edge off the attack without changing the tone.

VERY impressive. I pulled out the sensitivity knob to check out the input gain boost, and it obviously works as promised, and I can get some actual noticeable overdrive when digging in, but that is not my thing. It is there is you need it. Not going to touch the 'line boost' pullout... too scary to contemplate

By the way, excellent job at describing this unit as I was going through my purchase decision... sounds just as I expected it would based on our conversations earlier in this thread.

Regarding the lack of a 'secondary master volume' (versus the component/Minnie format) that I was all in a wad about earlier in this thread, if it actually does make a difference, I don't really care at this point. Sounds amazing, and PLENTY of nice, even, predictable, subtle volume increase capability from the 'master/line' knob.

One thing I can tell you for sure, the unit won't sit on top of the very shallow front to back AE210. My 'final version' AE210v has much in common with my CN212, so it sound sound pretty darn good. With the original, brighter AE210, might be a bit too much of a good thing up top with a single one. With two, and the additional low end bump from coupling, should be killer.

EDIT: I was wrong... sits on top of the AE210 vertical (or horizontal) just fine. 12" deep.

All of my cabs are too small or tilt back to permit placing Monique on top. I suppose the bird cage version would have worked but I don't like that form factor.

+1 For most, the Bird Cage/Minnie would be the thing for a very small cab format. And, I see that Jule now has very nice custom fit bags for that 'separates' format. Nice!
