Jule Amps Monique part 5

i guess when i get your walkabout in the mail, i'll be able to verify this statement ;)

weird. i wonder what it is about my rigs that hum. last night my Buster was humming; just bass cable, head, cab. i wonder if i have a dirty power supply. the hum does seem to reduce when my hands touch the strings, vs when i make no contact with them. in either case, i can still hear it.

It could be dirty power, bad house power as well. But perhaps its the grounding in your bass? Do you get the same result with all your basses? I'm assuming this is happening in your home. Do you have fluorescent lighting or lighting on dimmers where you are doing this?

And I never had any humming issues with the walkabout as well. :)

Yeah, if it varies by touching the pickups it is most likely bad power. If it buzzes similarly in different venues, it is most likely an instrument issue

Funny, I found the Monique quite bright and treble extended. Quite even through its range. Of course, compared to the Mesa M6/9 anything would sound dark, and I do agree there is not as much upper treble extension into the sizzle zone as a GK or whatever.

The Monique sounded quite similar to my Glock Blue Soul using the Roscoe with the Monique set flat ( although it would break up when I dug in a bit, which was not really my thing)

I don't have any cabinets with tweeters since selling my Thunderchild (other than Monique through QSC K10), so I have a different perception of high end than some of you. My cabinet stable currently consists of a Bag End S-15D stack, '83 Fender Bassman 2x15, and a Mojotone repro Bassman 2x12 with Weber Legacy speakers.

My comparison heads right now include a GK 1001RB-II, '83 Fender Bassman 135, '63 Fender Bassman, late '70's Ampeg V-4, '68 Fender Dual Showman Reverb, and the only combo I have is a '66 Ampeg B-15. I also regularly rehearse through a GK 800RB and Bag End 12/15 pair with EVM-*L speakers. All capable of excruciatingly bright.

My first Monique impression was that it was most similar to the Bassman 135 set as flat as the EQ can go.

it's the exact same setup (bass, cables, cab). only difference is the head. i'll troubleshoot more when i get home from work.

upon closer listening and cranking the level on Mo and messing with the tweeter crossover on the PH115 cab, i can here the same noise as on my Buster, but at a very low level. i'm assuming the highs are emphasized on the Buster, which makes the hum stand out. there must be a light or some other noise source in the room.

I haven't posed a pic of my new and improved rig (with Minnie), so here it is. Apologies for the iPad pic.

I also have a second AE210, a rack Monique and a Crest poweramp at my rehearsal space.

I will be bringing 2 AE210s and Monique/Minnie to most gigs moving forward.

Ken was nice enough to meet me in Missouri last week to sell me his De-Monique Tardis, THANKS AGIAN KEN! She is definitely a unique and well made piece of gear. The demeter power unit flat out SLAMS! While it is probably the best I have ever heard my rig sound, I don't think I can justify keeping her. So, if someone is interested…… I will pass her along to a new loving home for a very nice price. May consider partial trades for a few specific items of gear.

Lots of power in a very small package.
