Jule Amps Monique part 5

Thinking of selling my Tardis DeMonique. I'm legally blind and had to change a tube recently that was defective . Jule was kind enough to send me out a full set of replacement tubes. But the experience brought to light my limitations. I had to have a friend change it for me.
I love the amp and there are no issues with it. It's been in the house and is lightly used and comes with a case.
If anyone is looking for one please contact me I'll pass it along for the same price I paid for it. It has the fan.

Dude, I'm paralyzed from the neck down, though I can see like a mofo. I can't always manage the physical things I need to for maintaining gear, but I find a way if the gear is good enough. Having a buddy help me swap a tube is low on my list of reasons to dump gear. Of course, I'm not in your shoes, so I can't tell you what I'd do if I were you. Make the right choice for you. Remember, if you must do the time, don't regret the crime.

Working on the new album - a teaser rough cut snippet. Since I haven't been able to get my sax player into the studio yet, I dusted off my guitar for a placeholder solo. Still have some work to do on the track but it's getting there.

Fodera YYD into Monique straight into an Apogee Quartet for some of the bass tracks, into an Empirical Labs Mike-e for other parts.

Cool Mark...nice stuff!
Thank you!

I very much appreciate this Mark. With your permission I'd like to use it on the website. Especially with the "G".:)
I confess that I'm surprised -- and I have to stress that it's rough-and-off-the-cuff -- but if you dig it, by all means, feel free! I'm flattered that you found something in my noodling to like.

Eleanor Rigby's such a cool tune, and lends itself to so many different treatments. I like your chordal work around 1:25. Even in this rough cut, you guys sound pretty pro.

Thinking I need to get a decent recording interface for my Mac -- something not too pricey, but slightly upscale from the cable I used last night.

Just today finished up the bottom half of

for good people in Mississippi. It might be nice to have a place for Monique and Minnie where you can "stick 'em in." ;)

Stop it!!!!!! :spit:

Stop.... making..... cooler.... stuff.... than what I own. ;)

Very cool though.

Thanks, I originally worked that up as a solo bass tune, then expanded it for the live lineup (vox/sax/bass/drums), then for tracking I started throwing more stuff at it.

But as for us guys, that recording is just my vocalist and me. I programmed the drum tracks in Logic and tracked the keys, bass, and guitar. Amazing what you can do in the box these days.

Beatles are great for interpretation. One more rough cut snippet from the album. If I can get my sax player in for pickups, should be done after the first of the year. Half a dozen studio tracks, half a dozen live tracks.

So I finally got to annoy my bandmates tonight and A/B Minnie (800w at 4ohms), a Crest ProLite 2.0 (600w at 4ohms) and a Crown XLS2000 (650w at 4ohms) with Monique and a pair of Bergantino AE210s.

I really hate to say it, but the Minnie actually does sound better than the others. Definitely better clarity and seemed to cut thru the mix better than the other 2.

My bandmates didn't know which poweramp was actually driving Monique and I switched between them at least a couple of times each. Almost unanimously, I was told I sounded the best when Minnie was used.

Ok, why is this?

I have ALWAYS been of the opinion and my experience says that apples to apples (these 3 are close with Minnie being a bit more powerful), all poweramps sound the same or very close. Can someone tell me why a Minnie sounds better to 5 people in a room (4 of them were definitely listening blind)? Again, better but not to an extreme.

In any case, I love the Minnie.... And it fits in my gigbag!

Circuit design, quality of parts, made by people who care about musicians.

I guess that just about nails it.

Great product and works so well with Monique.

I can't see needing a new amp of any kind any time soon. I have gigged nothing but Monique for almost 18 months and have loved every minute. 18 months isn't long for many, but it is likely a record for me.:)

Because there's a lot of 'baggage' that goes with the power amp. Its not just a simple in->amp->out...there's other signal massaging happening.

Actually, most good power amps are designed to be 'straight wire with gain' as a starting point.
Some have filters &/or limiters &/or DSP processing, but those should be add-on features (except for possilbe filtering at extreme frequencies - like below 20Hz or above 20kHz or to protect against DC).

I'm not saying they sound the same or different, just saying that is the basic goal.

I have played my 201 through a zillion amps over the years and IMHO, the first time I plugged it in after the minnie was installed was a revelation. The Minnie definitely sounded the best to me.

(Yeah thats right, I have a minnie powered 201... so why am I hangin out, reading and posting in this Jule Monique thread???? hmmmmm. Don't tell my wife.)

That's another issue supporting the fact that the Minnie was not designed specifically to make the Monique sound better. James Demeter has two different preamps that it has to synergize-up with as well.
That means it is a good 'general purpose' bass guitar power amp.

Has anyone used one (or more) in a PA setting or home audio?

Thanks guys. The first set went well but the second set was fantastic tone wise and here's why.

I've been using HPF series 3 between my bass and Monique for a while now. I've been following the impedance comments on this thread as well concerning it.

So I used my hpf the first set as usual but I still noticed my sound seemed a bit over driven for my taste. Not distorted, just overmodulated a tad. I was happy with the tone but just wanted it to be a little clearer and warmer.

Well the second set I decided to remove the hpf and holy cow what a difference. I am shocked at the difference it made and really didn't think it would have made that much of a difference. Probably not as noticeable at low volumes, but at gig volumes there is a difference for how I set my gear. My tone was so much cleaner, clearer, and not overmodulated at all. It was exactly what I was looking for! Even my guitar player commented on how defined and clear my tone was that set.

I do love the hpf, but I loved the tone without it more. I do run my Fodera in active mode so I didn't think it would make much difference, but it did for me. I know I probably could have dialed down my pre on my Fodera a bit to compensate, but that really isn't an option for me because it's set optimally with the fx I use, so I don't want to make changes there. I'll continue to use my hpf, but only on my keyboard bass, not my Fodera.

I don't know if the Minnie is that much better than the crest pro lite, but I love the form factor and it really packs a wallop for such a light, small piece of gear.

I am stoked and loving the new setup!
