Jule Amps Monique part 5

Out of curiosity, have any of you inserted your Monique in the effects loop?

This would mean plugging your bass into the PUMA (or other bass head), taking the signal from the effects OUT to Monique, and from Monique into the effects IN.

It might not make any difference at all, but I'd be curious to find out of any of you have tried it.

I have done this with Monique in the Puma 900 fx loop. If you like to send your DI'd signal post eq to FOH and want to use Mo in conjunction with another pre, I like this approach best because you are still benefiting from using mo's DI. Whatever the case is, this will technically work as well because mo's input can handle the fx send of a preamp (this was confirmed by Jule in an earlier post).

Even though this was cool, and provided extra eq versatility, I still prefer mo into the fx return of the puma. I guess it depends what you're going for.

At the risk of asking you to repeat yourself, what differences did you note? Does the Demeter amp strike you as more or less neutral or as being "voiced" in its own way? I'm obviously still in the early stages of figuring out Monique but, after reading here and trying it with a few different heads, am curious as to how it would do with a separate power-amp. Something like a Crest Pro-Lite on the one hand, or the Demeter (installed internally if I stick with the Tardis format) on the other.

For my playing, I think the little bit of give/bounce already inherent in Monique would pair up well with something sonically hefty and articulate. Then again, maybe something that takes the tubey-ness and bounciness further would surprise me in a good way. :)

I've noticed I seem to push more air when I use mo with my crest pro lite than with my puma. More of a feel thing. I also can get a much cleaner warmer sound at a louder volume with the crest, than with the puma which tends to get aggressive at louder volumes.

Puma had more edge and an hi freq push. Minnie is more neutral, and has a bit more heft to the notes. Basically Minnie was designed with Monique in mind, and they go together well.

Man I have played on a bunch of tracks lately with Monique and
every time we try something after it we end up pulling the comp out of the chain. We are talking cherry vintage LA2A's and the ilk BTW. The head engineer flips whenever I bring Monique to a date......
A date with Monique????

I used to run my FEA dual comp at every gig, but with Monique it only comes out when I've got a really nasty room to deal with.

I want to get the Mike-E as a vocal preamp anyway so I figure I'll do the experiment. I wouldn't buy it just for tracking bass as running Monique into an Apogee Quartet gives me plenty of tone. But the Apogee is fairly pristine and I am not. :D

I notice that when running Crest, Crown, QSC, Cravin power amps there is very little difference in the tone and it conveys a truer representation of Moniques true tone. Some amps like the Carvin have the DSP and filters that slightly color the tone. I prefer running a power amp vs. into an effects loop, which the tone varies from amp to amp.

Thanks!

Is there such a thing as a De-Monique Tardis with its own parallel effects loop and wet/dry knob?

I'd love to know how the Minnie D compares with the amps you mentioned in the clean, effortless, girth department. :)

And starting with a photo:

Can you share your thoughts on how the Monique and the TFunk compare, esp live gigs.

The TF has been my go-to amp for years and I know it inside out.

Yes, I am working on a comparison now. Give me a while to get it done, and I'll be glad to post it.

I've been wanting to do this for a long time, however, it has been too busy. Now, during the Thanksgiving holiday, I think I can get it posted.

Stay tuned......

Wow! We are still going.

Very soon, there are going to be a bunch of new sound samples available. Beautiful work by a great player. Professionally done A/B's. Very exciting for me. They'll be fun to "ponder."

I have a blog entry on my experience with Thunderfunk and Monique. I hope you find this information useful.

Read it -- appreciate you taking the time to set your thoughts down. Never played a TFunk, but it is on my list of "iron" amps to try.

^ I've played both Monique/Baer and TF/Baer and they are both HAWT in different ways. With the TF you can get a bit of grind with aggressive playing/picking, but with the Monique you get that AND the characteristic 'bounce', AND you can hear changes in Sensitivity and EQ more clearly (than the other cabs I tried it with).

You may just keep one TF as a backup. Very sculptable and responsive to EQ changes. But the Monique takes the cake all the same :D :hyper:

Hmmm. I've always run my P bass with Sensitivity pulled and cranked. Tonight, I found it better at very low settings. Previously, the cranked sensitivity mainly showed up in my ear as a high/mid change. Today, I heard the change in lows. With my P, it was creating boom and flab that I couldn't EQ out.

I can't wait to try a Baer with Monique! I've come to the realization that although the GS cabs are great, they are lacking in the mids. I want a cab that has a little more natural mid presence. Christmas is coming up.......
