Jule Amps Monique part 5

Yesterday morning, I received and settled two new tubes NOS JAN 6188 Super Audio Tube Philipps ( Invalid Link Removed ). I like very much the very sweet, rich and detailed tone of these tubes. Besides, their price is very reasonable in comparison with other NOS tubes :)

On the other hand, I would not want to redo the same error as when I had settled two NOS JAN 5691 Philipps tube, and I would want to know if these 6188 are compatible with the electric power ( voltage plate ) of Monique ?

Jules, help me please!

Looks like it will work. The biggest concern is the heater current, and that is listed at 325 mills. More than that is evil. But it should work fine.

Plate voltage is lower than the 6SL7 specifications, but Monique is still well within the operating characteristics of the 6188.

I would give it a try and see if you like it.

I shall add this opinion concerning these 6188: these tubes have the lowest level of micro-phonie which I have never understood compared with all the N.O.S 6SL7 which I was able to test ( Sylvannia, Tung Sol U.S.A, R.C.A, GT and / or GT 229VT).
Also, they have a very close tone N.O.S 5691 Philipps.

Anyone in the Baltimore/DC area own a Monique who wouldn't mind doing a bass hang thing with a fellow TB'er so that he might be able to check out what this preamp is all about?

Hey everyone, new to the pre/power amp "separate but together" combination rig thing.

If I were to get a Monique Dovecage, would I be wasting my money if I didn't also get a really nice power amp to go with her (the Demeter)? Could I grab a Dovecage and scrape by with a cheaper power amp for a few months until I get the funds necessary to get the Demeter - or would that arrangement essentially be just a waste of a great preamp?

Any reason to be sure to buy the two in tandem/together, if you're buying one at all?

I ran my a Dovecage with a $300 poweramp (Crest ProLite 2.0) for over a year and I still do for rehersal. Sounds great. The Demeter Minnie is small, light and looks cool but doesn't sound much better than a Crown, Crest, QSC, etc. preamp and it is damned expensive.

I ran an XLS2000 or a Crest ProLite in a 2U case for over a year with my Dovecage. Still looked great. The Demeter looks cooler, but 3x+ the price.:bassist:

In any case, anyone looking for a poweramp for a DC should email Jule directly as I heard rumours that he may or may not be working on his own inexpensive, possibly soon to be available, small form factor 600w poweramp.:hiding:

I use a Carvin DCM2000 and have used Crowns and Q5 amps with little to no difference in tone. I would love to have a smaller amp to go with Mo if one comes available that I can afford.

Watts are cheap now. You can get more power for less money with a power amp than the Demeter. You're really paying a premium for the form factor and the name :hiding:. I'd have a De-Monique myself if it weren't for the exorbitant price. Again my only complaint is the high price; but if you can swing it I don't see why not.

I too would stay with what you have, at least for now. Give it a chance before investing more money.

Always, there are combinations of equipment that we will prefer, but I'd hate to think that in designing Monique I had limited anyone to one combination of equipment that was "required." I have happy customers who most of the time play through a PA, and I am proud of that.

Just to be clear, I don't have anything jule related yet. I was just wondering if it was still a worthwhile endeavor to get the preamp and then go find a cheap power amp. Sounds like it is, thanks for the suggestions everybody!

Probably wouldn't suck.;)

I am currently using a single or pair of AE210s with Monique and it is basically perfect IMO. Same with the Sadowsky SA410 I sold recently.. Great combination.

The NEO CN cabs have a great low end (better than the AE or HD series IME) some nice warmth and also kinda a modern brightness.... And they are super light. I would buy a CN212 or a pair of CN112s in a second but I still love my AEs. The CN212 sounds better, but only marginally IMO. I can't see the CN cabs sound anything other than stellar with Monique.
