Jule Amps Monique part 5

Monique sounds great with everything IME.

If you have a good power amp and matched cab. I still call bunk on those who say it sounds as good through a micro head's power section as it does a PA amp. It also doesn't do well with certain cabs (nostatic and I played through my Super Compact and it wasn't good, but my Buster sound great through that cab).

No doubt a great amp, but not infallible. Sadly for me, I'm posting mine in the classifieds soon, in order to swing something brighter and crisp (dare I say solid state?) sounding. My Barefaced SC is now my only cab, thus I need a different pairing.

I didn't say that, but My 2 Moniques sound great with the Minnie and Crest ProLite 2.0. The Crest is around $350 new, so not a pricy amp to pair with Monique. I don't see the point in running it thru a micro's power section, but to each their own.

I can say that Monique sounded better thru my Mesa all-tube D-180's power section than that of my GK MB Fusion, but even better with any dedicated poweramp (I have owned more than a few).

Re: cabs, I only use my Berg AE210's, but I liked Monique with TC cabs, thought it was ok with Mesa cabs and I wasn't a huge fan of Monique with older Chinese Ampegs.

Monique isn't for everyone, but for me, it quickly made me sell my SVT, Mesa M9 and D-180, GK MB Fusion and a couple of others. YMMV.

It sounds great with my ABG, my fretless Rob Allen and everything else I own.

I don't play a DB but I did a few gigs with a NS electric upright and it sounded great with Monique.

Echo to Baird, I did gig and tracking my NS electric upright with the Monique, just sounds great as usual, slight eq tweaking is needed for the acoustic stuff tho. Easy.

On Saturday, I spent an hour playing (comparing) Monique/Minnie and the new Demeter. I bought the Demeter. I liked both of the but the Demeter to me was super clean and very true to the sound of my bass. I have a Barefaced BB on the way but right now I play it through TC RS210 and RS212. I would urge you to check one out!

If thought of the Demeter at one point. But there are a few reasons why I haven't gone that route. The word around the campfire is that the Demeter is a fairly different sounding amp from the Monique.

I personally have no interest in the new Demeter. I have played enough of his preamp gear to know I prefer the Monique tone) Also, I normally don't care a ton about how an amp looks, but I can't stand the look of his new amp. The huge (apparently now optional) white "Demeter" lettering looks ridiculous to me. YMMV

I haven't had my hands on much of his stuff, but from doing a whole lot of looking and reading when I first started to look at preamps, I got that they were probably a bit more 'precise' than what I would be interested in. On the first round I ended up with a Kern instead, and now of course I have the Monique. I don't doubt that James makes really nice stuff, but everything I was reading sort of pointed me away from his take on things.

I have both amps. They're both excellent. Last Thursday I got a chance to hear them side by side at the same time at an out door gig with 2 bass players playing.
One was using the Tardis /46 combo and the other was using the M800D/ 1203s.

Both we're articulate and had great low end. They sounded great in the mix. The Demeter had more top end presence than the Tardis. The Tardis highs were sweet and musical. It comes down to personal preference in the end. You could hear both amps clearly no matter how busy the music got.

After my experience with the Mo and Barefaced Super Compact, I'd say that heads or cabs which roll off the treble can stay warm and sit well in the mix, but when the head and the cab each give you that roll-off it can be too much / not enough.

That matches my experience. Monique had a nice top-end with my Thunderchild, astoundingly great direct into a DAW, and a terrible match with all of my 1-way cabinets. I actually really liked running through the pre of my GK 1001RB-II and then into the De-Monique and my Bag End S15-D stack. Best of all worlds, the Monique tone with the GK EQ and aggression, and the Demeter power section. Just too much gear to carry.

I have a Monique 700 on order and looking forward to playing it through my HD-112's.. I've been using a Shuttle 9.2 which has been nice, but I think the Monique will have alot more going for it.. I previously had a Monique which I played through an IP-112ER rig and that was fantastic, along with a Kern... I wonder if you can have a Demeter power section installed in a Kern ???

I asked the question about monique/ip and then read the post :/

What did you like about this combo? Why did you change it?

I'm sure SCT1422 will answer your question, but....

I got to hear SCT1422 play the Monique/IP112 rig a couple of years ago at one of his gigs when I was travelling thru Buffalo. Sounded great to me and was one (of a few) reasons that all I play now is a Monique and Bergs (not IP's though).

If Tom sells it, buy it.. The 322 was the best cab ever in my opinion !! And with the IP setup it must be killer... A few reasons why I sold it where 1) I hated the handles on it.. It had the old style and I was living in a 2nd floor apartment which was a great pain in the ass... 2) I went to a micro head which is fine with just one HD-112 for most of my gigs.. I can add a 2nd HD-112 when needed... 3) I started using the NV-115's in which I have the prototypes... I use these for the really loud rock gigs... Let me know if you don't buy that cab.. I previously had an IP-153 which I regretted selling after I heard a live recording of it... I'm basically going back to the Monique/IP setup, the only difference is the amp is in the head and not the cab...

No. WAY not enough room inside the IP777. I've been in mine before.even if it was sparse, I don't think you could fit it in the vertical constraints of the box.

Yes. That is the constraint. It could be re-installed in another chassis, but that would be more than anyone would want to invest, I suspect.

if you do a quick google image search for Kern IP-777 you'll get at least the thumbnail of my Kern and you can see how not possible it would be, even without the height being an issue. There's a big turret board that runs across the center of the box that pretty much precludes any additions of that size or nature.
