Jule Amps Monique Part III

That's no prob. I was hoping the Monique would sound like the SVT, without the, well you know, SVT.

I have some other cabs I could use but it would have been fun to think I could use it on the SVT gigs too.

It does, but definately doesn't have the SVT grind.

I have owned more than a few SVTs and Monique does a clean very articulate SVT. Just better with cabs like Bergantino IME than an Ampeg fridge. YMMV.

I could get the amp to grind with my P, but I had to dig in hard. Almost plugged my TecAmp Jag in to make the EQ do what I wanted. I just sucked it up. Sad first outting. May head over to GC to grab a PA power amp like Crown or QSC. Want my fearful back from the doctor.

Fairly, let me say I've played some very fatigued backline amps that were not representative of well maintained versions of these manufacturers.

Agreed. I was just pissed that no amount of extreme eq tweaks could nudge that cab to sound any different from how it wanted to sound.

Just because the Monique is awesome, doesn't mean it will make a clapped out cab sound awesome. I also don't like very many production 8x10 cabs anyway. Not low enough or high enough in the right way for me, nor do they get loud enough without breaking up, especially in the lows. I've spoken with Jule abouth the design lineage of the Monique and it resides somewhere between Ampeg and Sunn with some inspiration from some well known amp and electronics makers he's worked with. It's closer to a B15, but with some of the clarity and heft of a Sunn and the weight and punch of an SVT. At least that's what I hear. What I don't hear is any Fender Tube vibe in the mix.

That's why I loaded my Mesa cabs with faital's Much warmer, clear mids and don't start breaking up at low volumes.

I have seen some "interesting" mounting of the speakers in two of these cabinets that was taking away from the performance. This was a few years ago. The very good part was that after some tedious woodwork and re-mounting, we were able to get them to sound as we expected.

How much heat does the Monique put out from the underside? Was contemplating sitting it on top of the Walter Woods, so long as the heat isn't too much and the rubber feet (on the Monique) allowed a little air flow for the Woods.

No heat on the bottom. Very little on the top.

Perhaps I am misspeaking here but it isn't expecting a bit too much for Monique to sound like an old SVT? I know there have been some comparisons because of the similarities in the design of the eq (bandaxall), but how could it be like an SVT, especially since this is only a tube pre without the tube power section that an SVT has? From what I've read here in the thread is that the Monique really makes you hear what your bass is supposed to sound like, just like The Read Purity pre does.

The only problem with the Read Pre IMO was that the eq wasn't that great, but when you bypassed the eq, the Read Pre came to life! I'm hoping the Monique eq will give me better results in sweetening the sound from room to room, but I am not expecting drastic eq changes. I love the way my bass sounds with flat eq settings so I just want the tube response of the Monique and some salt and pepper to taste.

I guess for those back line situations where you are forced to use a cab that is there it will be handy to have some other sort of eq source as well with Monique, perhaps a parametric stomp box.

I feel for you guys that have to deal with back line situations. I am so thankful that the gig I have allows me to always use my rig.

Again I do not have my Monique yet so I am speaking merely on just what I have read and concluded here.
