Yup; also depending on how the cabs are stacked, chaining can sometimes allow you to use two shorter cables & for speaker cables, shorter is better (theoretically - of course, you're not going to hear the difference between a 3 ft cable & a 6 ft cable, but there is more thermal loss the longer a speaker cable is). Yes, I am a nit-picker.

Minnie has two speaker jacks so I don't have to daisychain - but it makes for shorter cables. My Puma only has one speaker jack so if I want to run two cabs I have no choice. No difference in tone either way (running both jacks out of the amp vs daisychaining).

Exemplary customer service. After much troubleshooting it turned out to be another piece of kit entirely, but Jule was the bomb throughout the whole process. He stands by his product in a way you hope everyone would but in the real world hardly ever happens. Remember, he was looking after me because I owned one of his creations even though when I bought it he did not get any of the purchase price.

So I finally got to do some quick DI recording tests with Monique, Puma 900, and the Read Pre. I recorded some very short and simple straight forward lines to compare. The Read is obviously at a disadvantage in this test because I don't use the eq section of the Read resulting in a thinner sound, but i think it has a very sweet detailed mid sound that can work well in conjunction with a solid eq pedal. After all of the testing, I think I'm convinced that I prefer the Monique into the Puma fx return because its a bit meatier and thicker, although in the fx loop of the Puma it's quite nice as well. When I listen to the DI'd recording of monique into the puma fx return through my monitors, I actually can feel the low end from Monique pushing air. Really sweet from a DI feed.

I recorded the DI feed into my iPad using the Apogee One for iPad and using the Twisted Wave recording app. So here goes...

As I said I did this fast on the fly so I hope it's helpful to some.

Btw I was using my Fodera Emperor Elite II in passive mode favoring the bridge pickup for finger style, both pickups equally for slap.


Nostatic good suggestion to do this test. Some of the nuances arent as noticeable acoustically as they are through the DI. Jule has made a very fine piece of equipment that is truly versatile and can be used in so many different ways. The Monique DI'd signal is fat, and has very detailed mids. I am a happy camper. :)

Thanks for posting. I've been trying to cut a few tracks I like, but I've not been happy with things aside from my tone (timing, composition, technique, etc).

I'm finding I like my Dingwall ABZ into Monique for recording, but like my P better live. They each seem to have issues going the other way (P is almost too much when recording, and ABZ is too little live).

This is the best DI tone I've heard. I'm stoked.

No problem. You should post some recordings. I would love to hear how the Dingwall sounds. Never got to play one before. And would love to hear it with Monique. I wouldn't worry about the playing it's all about the tone comparison.

When I did the recording I wasn't concerned about my performance just more about providing comparisons. Keep it simple. I've been playing for 30+ years, and I know there are a lot of major players on in this forum, but I'm also confident in my ability and I don't feel I need to showcase it here.

After all we are all cool bass players here, not egocentric guitar players. LOL!

i hear ya. i'm just working on scratch ideas, and they are a little wonky. i'll find a nice "standard" that is simple, and lay that down.

@nostatic - Care to share what brand of wire you use? I used to get fabulous results with 10 gauge stranded Canare cable - tho I cannot for the life of me remember what the model number was. And the cable has long since disappeared ...
