Just a curious question. What picks do you use?

I'll probably be one of the black sheep, when I say that I like Planet Waves Black Ice picks better than any other, in their .55 gauge. The only thing they don't have, is longevity, but man do they kick butt in every other way...control, grip, speed, etc.

I have one of those pick punches, and not too long ago, I turned some old cd’s into swiss cheese making picks. They’re surprisingly good! After heavy play over a few months, they begin to crack, and eventually break, but the attack you get out of them while they last is monstrous. They also look cool, almost like they’re invisible!

Ooh, that'll punch through a CD? My stepdaughter got me one of those punches and I had fun mangling old credit cards and stuff, but never anything tougher.

I use Dunlop Tortex .50's which I got in the habit of using during my metal days.

I needed a thin pick that would keep relatively consistent regardless how hard I attacked the strings, and something forgiving enough for fast 16ths and triplets.

I use a razor and cross-hatch them for better grip... works a charm!

What are your favorite picks and what do they do for you?

Lately I have been using one. I always used the Dunlop smooth magenta picks

and I guess they're still #1. I have tried the hard, thick dark gray "Wedgie"

which has a wonderful tone, a cross between fingers and pick, but too much scraping noise before the attack. Maybe it's my technique.
