Is there any preamp I can get that JUST has the phase switch and not all the fancy bells and whistles of an EQ and compressors? I have a Fishman Platinum EQ, but I just want it for the upright phase switch, nothing more. Anything response is appreciated. Thank You.

fdeck's preamp. he's a member on this forum. his pre is freakin' awesome. It has a phase and a HPF from 35 to 140 (i think).

+1 that's what I'd get since it's inexpensive and has the big three of Acoustic Bass Amplification, a phase switch, a variable lo cut/high pass filter, and a 10 megohm load to match your pickup to the input of your amp. I'm currently waiting until he has the new one with the battery level indicator.

Can I bypass all of the filters when I get it?

The Low Cut/ Hi Pass filter will go as low as 35 hz and that opens up the bottom completely. As far as the 10 meg ohm load on the box you really wouldn't want to bypass that as it will make the pickup sound better. The Phase Switch has two positions in and out. It's a great little box. At $65.00 it's the deal of the century.

I read the manual associated with the product, and I would have to give a +1,000 thumbs-up to both the product and the manual.

I read the manual, consulted with fdeck on the original design, provided initial use-testing and laboratory measurements, and have actually used the Series 1 and Series 2 over years. I also give it a huge thumbs up! :)

This box is now stuck to the side of my GK MB150 with velcro.
It makes the amp much fatter and more natural.
One major fault in my mind to the amp is that it can sound 'electric'. For this reason, I experimented with the Fishman Pro EQ Platinum into the return. That sounds better, but defeats the purpose of using a combo. I might as well just use an 18lb cabinet and 5lb head. Come to think of it, that was my thinking a few years ago that caused me to sell a GK combo the first time. :D
The older I get, I value just showing up and playing the gig with minimal fuss.
The little wonderbox smooths things out nicely, adds warmth and the HPF cleans up the bass junk. Best $55 I've spent.

another way to accomplish just a phase flip is two speaker cables, one with reversed phase. Use whichever one suits your phase needs at the time.

This way doesn't have the inherent noise/sheilding problem of a phase inverted instrument cable.

Me, I would (and do) use a pre. Something like the fdeck suggested over and over above, or the fishman plat pro, or many others.

The reason I need that phase switch is to prevent feedback on my upright. Or at least thats what I've been taught its for. But Fdeck didn't say that it will prevent feedback. Will that phase switch help, or have I been led in a wrong direction?

A polarity inversion switch ("phase switch") can be quite useful for eliminating feedback. You have to keep in mind, however, that it's a hit-or-miss affair. The amplified sound can often cause the bass to resonate and reinforce the acoustic power created when you play. Inverting the polarity often leads to less constructive interference. The wavefronts may align, however, in a manner such that inverting the polarity of the amplified sound hardly makes a difference at all. Add to that the fact that different frequencies will be adding in different phases and, well, you can see why it's hit or miss.

The HPF-Pre is great for db pickups with the high pass filter (duh) and the 10 megohm input impedance.

But I guess if you've got the Fishman pre, then you've got all that already.

I've had good luck just being aware of where I stand relative to the speaker. If your speaker is firing right into the back of your bass, it is much more likely the pickup will feed back. Try moving off axis some, or even standing alongside your amp instead of in front of it.

Standing close to monitors can have the same effect.

Get as big an acoustic sound as you can out of the bass, and then maybe you can turn down the amp.
