Some of it was purchase in trades, so they had to give me gift cards. I figured that'd be fine as I was sort of in the market for a decent, reasonably priced back up bass.

That brings me to this evening...I decided to swing into GC and see what they had. Well, they had a bass. A beautiful EBMM StingRay 5 that was not reasonably priced, but that I just couldn't pass up! White with matching headstock, HH, maple neck, and gold hardware. Even my wife approved! I couldn't say no. Best part is, I was able to score 15% off!

Is it just the pictures, or are the pickup poles and the pick guard screws gold too? If so, that is amazing attention to detail. Either way, that is awesome looking!

AFAIK it's not that easy. In the case of my H Stingray 5ers the pickup is wired to the circuit, the wires don't go directly to the selector, which is soldered separately to the board too. Apparently the circuit compensates EQ and volume so you don't have mismatches when switching between coils. I tried in fact to see if I could rewire the switch so that when in single coil it'd select the front coil instead of the default back coil. I played around swapping wires from the pickup but only was able to get wrong combinations that would mute the bass at certain positions. It's a more complex layout than a typical coil tap switch (there's 4 wires IIRC and there's 3 coils so some connections are made at the PU itself -probably the back and phantom coils are serialized for single coil position with a middle point between them for leaving the phantom coil out when series or parallel are selected-). Way over my reach, to the point I'm even thinking of trying to simply reverse the pickup inside the PU cover (not easy, lots of glue inside).
