Just bought ugliest Carvin ever...

And actually, yeah, with a different pickguard, or without one at all, it'd look pretty decent. Maybe make a new one out of a nice piece of 1/4" maple.

Always subjective.

That's a great rock solid p bass clone.I had a 5 string neck thru, just about the shape. The upper horn being splayed outward gives it that kinda off balanced wrong to to the eye look. But hey that thing has all the charm of a rusty tire iron, it's all business no show. I agree a black pickguard would give it a little less contrast Now let's get going and get some flats on that thing and start rattlin' some windows.

Ugliest Carvin? Not by a long shot. I submit to you Exhibit A. Imagine this in pink:

I've never had a Carvin bass, just bought my third amp from them. Have never had a chance to try a PLEK'd bass either, gonna knock out two birds with this one. Have to admit, price drove this purchase. I have high hopes for it, but I still have the ten day trial to make up my mind.

Just asking: why is everybody not happy with that plain innocent, simple and functional white pickguard? I would leave the bass as it is. If anything, if somebody would twist my arm about a different pg, I would custom order a honey pearloid one...

Well, I can't speak for everybody, but there's no accounting for taste, and I just hate bright white pickguards or finishes. Now antique white or Ivory I love. Another vote for black PG, and I also like the stained finish. I'll include a pic of my Warmoth Hippy Dippy P-J to show why.
