Eat your heart out (no it ain't mine)

Nice. It definitely epitomizes the term, "sleeper bass".

DEFINITION:

Sleeper Bass ~ is a bass guitar that has high performance and an unassuming exterior.

Ol' Carl Thompson should have a look at that. Now THAT'S a 'no frills' bass.;)

I'd throw the equivalent to a set of rims on it, like you would on a car (which is a pickguard, in this case), and play the living hell out of it. Or, trade it for a 5'er.:D
yeah but there good basses

Mines not a 70, and I don't recall saying it was rare.
No it's not rare I thought it was it was 1st year model never seen one like it for sale. It looked like it was really nice bass it had active passive set up I might be wrong it had 2 jacks one mono other stereo. The humbuckers were probably really nice tone I wish I would have got it in one piece. Thats the only bad situation I had. I found a 1980's Kawi P/J set up with graphite neck. I also bought 1989 Fender Precision Plus I did not like it I always keep my basses in cases not on stands. The Plus ended up with the intonation and action out of wack no reason at all. Every bass I own are kept in top condition and never left out. I bought the Noel Redding Jazz and Fender 62 RI both crafted in Japan and both basses are just amazing. I owned recent P Basses and Elitte 11 they were built well also. I think Japan models are just as good. The Elitte II was the better of the Fenders I owned except for Custom Shop and it was NOS. Which is not top of the line. But still is a great bass 58 RI Shoreline Gold and the Vintage I have is great but it needed jack repair out of the box.I can't wait for this Kawi I hear the late 80's are not poor mans Alembics but stills its a really nice dark walnut with the graphite neck. I have a 50th Anniversary Jazz 2010 coming in also. There really nice and very much in demand i like my Noel Redding better it sounds more like p bass. I really like the Japan stuff

Well, it arrived today, and I have to say that I'm very pleasantly surprised. It's as plain as I imagined, but I was completely knocked out by the build quality and the tone. The neck is very friendly, and I love the finish on the back of the neck. It arrived with the lowest action I've ever seen on a bass, and after it sat here a while the neck started to back bow just the tiniest bit and started buzzing. I'm going to let it sit a day or two before I adjust it. The grain in the body wood is very nice and the satin finish feels great. If you weren't careful, you could probably lose a finger on the bridge, which a large, solid chunk of metal. After playing this bass for a little bit, I understand why Carvin claims in its literature that people think this bass is active. The tone can only described as ballsy. It's definitely in the P Bass ballpark (I own two, I know what I'm talking about) but with some more gumption. It's very articulate and modern sounding on the top. Maybe a little too much, but time will tell. I've been running the tone knob about 25% open. Any more than that and it starts to get a little obnoxious. The soft case that came with it is very nice, appears to be sturdy and did an excellent job protecting the case on its trip from San Diego. I've been thinking about getting a Carvin for well over fifteen years, and now that I have I really think I should have earlier.
