Justifications for buying a new bass

Harmony was a gift, starter bass, short scale, needed lots of work. String spacing was too wide and it didn't have the B string that all my favorite country songs used, so I got the Ibanez.

Wanted a 6 string fretless like Glenn Worf who was one of my heroes. Couldn't afford one, so I made one. Played it exclusively for 14 years. Until the fingerboard separated from neck and no money or means to fix it (still have it, WILL be fixed in the near future). Back to the Ibanez. After 21 years got the Zdressy so I could have fretless again, got it cheap enough, and could experiment with low F#. Considered it my 40th bday present.

All along I'd wanted a full size 4 string, a walnut 4 string was even going to be my next build. Got the Kramer only because it was cheap enough, with discounts at Goodwill it was $48. Figured I could at least use it for parts, and after swapping a tuner bushing to the Ibanez, I've been playing it quite a bit, since it is a "P bass". A "Jazz" would be nice but I can probably rewire the Ibanez to sound in the ballpark.

If I can get something cheap enough that makes me happy, my GF approves since she does the same. She's seen the results of me having to live on the bottom for way too many years, and wants to see me have something once in awhile.

Speaking seriously, if it will make you happy and won't be to the detriment of your starving children, you don't need a justification, then. Everybody has their favorite way to waste money: someone travels, someone goes out to restaurants, someone buys gadgets, someone - basses.

My wife is in the band with me...so there's no "trying to hide it". I buy first then tell/show her. She understands because I spend the money I make in the band (although she sometimes asks how many basses do I actually need).
My justification is the money made in the band is spent on equipment...it never comes out of household money. I bought an entire PA, by myself, with the money I made in the band last year.

About this "wifey" stuff: I get it, but...

MY GF is an enabler. She's a musician, (Vocals) and at first, I was actually sheepish about showing her a new Bass, because I thought she might think that I'm bad at handling/saving money. (Which, by the way, I am!)

But I learned soon, she adores them, and when I showed them to her (the basses, the basses) she is totally impressed. She EVEN wanted to hear me talk about my tube amps, what & why, & describe the Flip-top (B-15R) I used to own!

Can ya believe it?

And every time I'm online, gazing at the many incredible instruments I want, she goes:
"Oh, that's so nice! Are you going to buy it?"

I'm blessed!

2. I already have one (or more...) of these, but I like the ones I have so much that I'd like another in a different color. (This is why I have two Rick 4004s and am eyeballing a third.)

Buying a bass can be tough when you already own 3... or 15... or 25. Or more. For those who do, unless stupidly rich there needs to be some justification in order to do so with a clear conscience. I thought it might be a good idea to start a thread to help the newbie who hasn't yet learned how to justify such purchases. I have a few of mine to offer, but I'd like to get a thread going to get as many reasons as possible - lest people start thinking they have some sort of "problem." Pishaw!

I'll start with these:

• I got a great deal and can sell it for as much as (or more than) I paid. It's money in the bank.
• I just sold that other bass.
• This model has been discontinued, and if I don't get it now I may never be able to get it again.
• I had a 20% off coupon.
• The bass is on my bucket list, so I'd wind up buying it eventually anyhow. The sooner I get it, the more days of my life I'll have to play it. We're all going to die somewhere within the next 100 years. I want as many days with this bass as possible.
• I need this bass to match the new clothes I've been wearing.
• I earn more than half my income playing bass. It's a tax write-off.
• Because I earn more than half my income playing bass, I can afford it.
  
• YOLO
• I always dreamed of having this exact bass when I was a kid!
• It makes me happy.
• I don't drink, do any drugs, party, buy cars, go to strip clubs, or waste my money any other way - really.

Well... that's what I used to justify ordering this 2 nights ago.
