JustStrings.com -A dissatisfied and former customer testimonial

The strings were not open, as in D'Addario sealed plastic. They were two single B's that, as it turned-out, were not up to par - barely ground and shoddy. I'm sure GHS will stand by their workmanship - if they're anything like D. Markley. They had some whereby the outer-wrap was inconsistant on a few sets (didn't pass the nut). They sent replacements by mail.

This situation stinks and I won't order from Juststrings now that I've heard about a complaint. I work for a company that truly stresses CUSTOMER SERVICE. We are to do whatever it takes to keep the customer happy and right the wrong that may or may not have occurred. I am empowered as a manager to give them a product, their money back, and anything else that I feel is necessary to keep the customer buying from us. If the customer leaves happy and feels that the situation was resolved to their liking...then you've got them for a customer for a long time in the future. Another important thing to realize is that they will tell their friends, enemies, church, synagogue, work associates, etc...if they've had a GOOD experience or in this case a BAD experience.

My $.02!

I don't get this logic. Let me put it bluntly. I've ordered from Juststrings enough to tell you that they are a very fast operation. They ship quick, and have a no-nonsense return policy that leaves a lot for interpretation except for one fact: No returns after 30-days.

Sure the owner could have been a little more diplomatic about his wording as to why he was not accepting the return. But really, OP showed up at this place of business after doing business online. Your talking a customer from another place showing up. No idea if he even tried to e-mail him and explain before hand!

I wouldn't stop shopping with them that quickly. They are still the quickest shippers on the internet and there have been enough people in this thread attesting to their quality product, quick shipping, and customer service.

I read again. I still don't see where it says they were "open," though I'm not a fine reader.

If they are open, that's one thing. Otherwise, I do think the merchant's within his rights (even to say "all sales are final," if he wants). But I do think you have to be prepared to be flexible if you want to continue to stay in business.
Well, it's implicit when it read that he never wrapped one around a string post, and unused =/= unopened.

I used to order from Just Strings. Probably received 10 or so orders from them. Never any issues. Returned a set within 30 days just because I changed my mind. No problem.

I don't use them anymore because their prices are high and their shipping costs are high as well. I do not know of any other place with as big of inventory as Just Srings.

There are no "facts" at all here. Only empty allegations.

Also, did you consider that the owner wasn't sending the message that they'll get mad if ANY strings are returned. Rather, they were sending one person a message that some crazy guy coming in off the street wanting his money back after 40 days had passed is stupid...and the risk/benefit analysis of the situation made it clear that doing everything in their power to keep your business in the future might not be worth it?

BINGO... +1

take a pill & get on wif yo life :rollno:

i use their services constantly,, will continue to do so :bassist:

While they have a large selection, most of the time when I order from them it's back ordered and I have to wait until it's in stock. That being said they are great to work with. There was an order I made that ended up getting lost in the mail and they refunded my money so I could place the order again.

I haven't read through all the posts, so excuse me if I'm saying something already said....

My impression is the OP let the 30day return policy expire, knowing he was going to be in JS's area soon.

This could have all been solved with a simple phone call ahead of time...... letting them know you had a problem, and would be bringing the strings with you for return on such and such a date...... Easy enough, and hopefully, lesson learned.

I'll post my experience. I've loved their large inventory, I've been able to purchase sets I couldn't find anywhere in the metro Detroit area. I've purchased *a lot* of strings from them. I once custom ordered a 36" scale alembic bass that required ~39" scale strings. I ordered an extra long scale set from them that I hoped would fit, pulled one string out to hold up to the length of the bass (the package was not sealed), and then asked to exchange them for a different set since they were too short. I got the line "once a finger has touched a string, the string is dead from the oils in your skin...our customers will know", and did not get a refund. I was so pissed I didn't buy from them for years, but recently had to because once again, they were they only place that could get me my favorite set within a few days.

JustStrings.com used to be my on stop only for Rotosounds, They used to beat veryone one's price. But recently, several shops including Elderly beat JS by $200 a set, and they have 'em i stock.
It seems that JS has just beeen going through the motions lately.

I've ordered with them maybe 20 times.

1-Had a problem once: they don't tell you what's in stock and what's not, so I ordered strings and had to wait 3 weeks. Not a problem, but I would have wanted to know before I ordered.

2-And, they once sent me the wrong Smith strings - not their fault, the strings were mispackaged, but Ken Smith sent me replacement strings within two days. Nice.

About the OP, I think he's wrong. You can't flame a company for not wanting to bend their rules for you. 9 days after the 30 days it's a lot of time. . .

We are just too spoiled in the US with customer service - we think everybody should bend over for us just because we have a dollar.

I order my GHS B's 4 at a time from a local guy (the owner). They get them directly from the GHS factory. I just make sure I order when the last one is on my bass, cuz it takes up to 2 weeks sometimes. The price is right and never a hassle. Anyone want to buy 2 GHS XL BF130's cheap?

*sigh* such a big deal about a couple of strings, I just don't get it. Beyond the 30 day term..showing up in person to bitch (How often does that happen there?)..geezz..I have some strings here, PM me and I will send you a set for free..geeeezz....

I've only ordered from JS once...and that was a couple of days ago, should have the strings today though.

Based on the OP's posts, he isn't telling us the whole story. First, he says they send him the wrong strings, implying it was JS's fault. Several posts later he says he ordered the wrong strings. It's also funny how he waited past the return period to return the strings.

You always hear horror stories about poor customer service, but its always from the person who plays the role of the 'victim'. The employees were 'rude' and how they are never going to shop there again. What isn't mentioned is how the customer is an a-hole to the employees.

An example: I went to an EBgames (they merged with GameStop, which is notorious for 'bad' customer service) to buy something. While I was in there a customer came in, asked about purchasing Mario Galaxy for his Xbox360. The employee calmly said that MG isn't available for 360. The customer proceeded to verbally abuse the employee and even offered to go outside and fight him. Mall security got involved. Wanna know the funny thing? The guy who got thrown out worked at the same liquor store as my girlfriend, and when I was in there visiting her he kept complaining about how he got thrown out and how the employee was being an a-hole.

So no sympathy from me for the OP.

Been ordering from JS for years. Generally good selection, fast, accurate fulfillment, and nice customer service the few times I've needed it. Sometimes their policies are inconvenient such as they don't issue credits, only refunds. So I can't replace a set, I have to return and then reorder. But given the number of times I have actually had to do this, I don't consider it a big deal. I mean this is strings we are talking about. Plus 30 days to return an item is very generous.

I just wanted to ad that I don't think this discussion serves the tb community in any useful way. I would be happy to see it deleted.

I haven't ordered from just strings (yet) and I can see both sides of this argument, but I can tell you as a small business owner...you cant just start bending rules and taking hits, giving discounts, and swallowing money for customers who may never order with you again anyway.

When I first started out in business, I would do whatever it took to keep the customer happy, including dropping prices (ALOT), adding services for free, etc, only to find out that I never heard from that customer again. They were thrilled with my service but that did not guarantee a repeat sale. I was losing money and spending more time dealing with people who wanted me to bend my rules and policies than I was working for paying customers.

I say, YOU take the few dollar hit because you didnt return it in the 30 day return policy. If you were within that timeframe I would be on your side but you cant expect a business to swallow your mistake.
