JustStrings.com -A dissatisfied and former customer testimonial

this thread made me lol! this reminds me of things my mom tells me about from jc penney, where people buy dress clothes for a wedding/whatever then want to return them after wearing them. or after 2 years or more. and yes they actually try this, unfortunately at jc penneys this kind of thing is actually allowed most of the time.

Illbay, you are so darn correct on that one! He can't take a $10.00 hit now and then... that's crap.

I'm on the fence about that one. It does sound as though there is some question about (1) what the return expiration date actually is (starting from when? When the strings ship? After all, they apparently aren't "factory fresh" the minute they go out the door!), and (2) whether that was satisfactorily communicated on the invoice.

But my real irritation is this whole "factory fresh, unsellable merchandise" argument. To me, it's bogus. What the **** is "factory fresh?" Who defines it, and how is it determined?

If a string is in the original packaging and hasn't ever been put on an instrument, how is it now "unsellable"? Because it traveled some miles to its destination? How many "miles" were on the string before the sale?

It's arbitrary but the merchant made it seem like it was SO patently obvious that he couldn't believe the customer would even question it!

I simply hate having my intelligence insulted in that way.

If they don't want to replace the strings, and they can find that "30 day return" rationale to justify it, okay, fine. Just don't do business with them any more.

But that about the credit card, the fact that as described it looks like the merchant dropped the ball but stubbornly refused to admit it. This about "Credit Card fraud" is bull****. Online commerce using CCs is more than just "common" these days. A company that has questions once the order is placed, is obligated to follow up with the customer. It should NOT fall to the customer to notice that "hey, the order has never arrived" a month later, then call and get the stonewall treatment like that.

That's outrageous and inexcusable.

My local dealers (with an "s") take back strings for a maximum of 10 days only after the sale, and they won't take back the strings if the package seal is broken at all, nevermind taking them out of the package. You can't even take them out of the package in the store to check for proper lenght for your application. So, in this light, the juststrings policy seems more than fair.

Too bad the OP got distracted and went past the return deadline, but eh, **** happens.

This situation stinks and I won't order from Juststrings now that I've heard about a complaint. I work for a company that truly stresses CUSTOMER SERVICE. We are to do whatever it takes to keep the customer happy and right the wrong that may or may not have occurred. I am empowered as a manager to give them a product, their money back, and anything else that I feel is necessary to keep the customer buying from us. If the customer leaves happy and feels that the situation was resolved to their liking...then you've got them for a customer for a long time in the future. Another important thing to realize is that they will tell their friends, enemies, church, synagogue, work associates, etc...if they've had a GOOD experience or in this case a BAD experience.

My $.02!

I would have checked their website for the return policy before making the effort to visit their location, and I certainly would have done so if it had been more than a month. C'mon, it's not hard to find:

[Invalid or Expired Link Removed]
Returns and Warranty Policy - A full refund is available (less Shipping & Handling) for unopened merchandise in resalable condition that is returned within thirty days of the original invoice. Merchandise is not eligible for return after a period of thirty days from the original invoice. Opened or used merchandise cannot be returned. All warranty claims are handled directly by the manufacturers of the products.

After seeing that, I would not have expected them to make an exception for me, and I certainly wouldn't be bad-mouthing them publicly for not making such an exception.

I ordered some laptop parts from Dell a couple months ago, and a few weeks later I realized that I wouldn't need some of the parts after all. I checked and found that I was past their return date. It was MY mistake for not dealing with it earlier, not theirs. I figure I'll eBay the additional parts.

call most string makers and tell them you didnt like their strings. They'll most likely ship a set for free or give you some sort of freebie. It's been discussed to death here and elsewhere.

Hell, I had musiciand friend give me a refund for next day shipping. Someone actually received the stuff (front desk?). I called them and explained that, though the stuff had been delivered somewhere, I didnt have acces to it by the time I expected. Their response? "sure, we can do that!" I'm talking about MF here!

Just for the record, I've bought webstrings. Their flats are low tension an pretty nice for the money.

If we were talking about a 2K bass, then I'd understand the company being strict about their return policy. But don't cheap out on your costumers like this!

You're really not expecting a small, one shop operation to respond in the same manner as Guitar Center, are you?

If the original post is indicative of the manner in which the poster deals with things after he screws up, I wouldn't be sad to see him go as a customer. He's more trouble than he's worth.

Honestly, the fact that the OP states that it was all he could do to keep himself from resorting to punching the owner in the face shows me how "reasonable" he was being. Oh, and I have to love that one of his arguments is that his "dad has been in business for over 30 years." Heh.

That's absolutely right! My mother works at Dillard's, and you wouldn't believe the things customers try to bring back. Especially women... dresses, underwear ect, that's been used too!:spit: And they have the nerve to expect them to take it back, and they do too. So many stores don't sell clothes any more, they rent them out.

I'm not going to comment on this particular situation, except to say I've dealt with JS several times, and never had any issues.

I've never had a bad experience with Juststrings.com. But, I'm sure it happens once in a while.

To the OP: Instead of pissing and moaning here about how you were wronged, why not send an email to Juststrings laying out your complaint? Also, you never did explain why it took you 40 days to realize you had the wrong strings.

Alaskabass - I am thrilled that they were trying to protect me the customer when there was an address issue with my card. By the way, my card has never been a problem with any other company. And thanks a lot for your ill wishes.

My point here was how I was treated by these folks. The same way the original poster was treated. They lost me as a customer because they acted as though I had crapped on their breakfast. I don't get it. All I needed was a little cooperation from their end, perhaps someone with a similing face and I may have sent them a money order instead. You think I am going to hand over my cash to someone who is going to treat me that way over the phone!?! You wouldn't either.

By "your" definition...no one else's.

No, its pretty much a definition consistent with what you would find in most dictionaries.

That's might be what you meant...but what you said was "crazy guy". Be more descriptive if you don't mean it as a personal insult.

Sir, the context in which words are used is just as important as the words themselves. I said exactly what I meant to say, and I find it humorous that you still don't understand the context after I was nice enough to spell it out for you. Get past your over-developed sense of indignation...please.

So state that it is "your opinion" and nothing else...but you didn't do that, did you...you just said "stupid". :rollno:

Again, CONTEXT. You're right. I didn't specifically say that I was stating my personal opinion because I assumed anyone with at least a third grade education would be able to figure it out on their own when reading it. However, I apparently didn't realize that I would be dealing with someone incapable of grasping another person's prose without superimposing his own ridiculous level of universal victimhood into the message.

You've been here on the forum all of about four months and feeling pretty high and mighty aren't you...you got all hot and bothered - tried to bully someone and someone else called you on it didn't they?

I'm glad you used my advise to look in the mirror...however when I suggested you direct your moral outrage at someone, I actually meant direct it at yourself. Everything you have just written could be used to more accurately describe you than me. While I gave an opinion based on my impression of the situation, I did not try to bully anyone into not posting although I did try to illustrate to the OP that I think he is...well...wrong.

You on the other hand, decided to go the rout of intimidation in your disagreement with me. You decided to be condescending, threaten me with non-compliance with forum rules and imply that my opinion is not valid because I'm a noob (which is especially hypocritical since you aren't even a supporting member yourself). Nice job.

What a disappointing attitude....I don't give a fig about this situation and I have no moral outrage (and I love the "ignore" feature of this forum...might just have to use it again). You, on the other hand, showed a whole lot of emotion and started throwing a lot of insults...even to the point of implying the original poster lied about the situation.

So let me get this straight. You're not emotional and have no moral outrage, but are bothered enough about my supposed egregious infractions to keep putting up posts telling me how much of an a$$ I am and threaten me with being added to your ignore list? (as if I'm going to loose a bunch of sleep over that) OK.

As for my getting too emotional, all I can do is assure you I'm not. You can choose to believe me of not. However be advised that if you don't take my word for it, you're going to have to figure out a way to punish yourself for having the audacity to call me a lier.

This forum is usually characterized by maturity and solid advice about bass playing and associated gear. Spend some time listening vice shoving your own interpretation of someone else's truthfulness into their thread. If you don't agree...say you don't agree...and then move on. Or take it to PM if you just can't sleep or don't have other important things in your life to worry about.

Yep it is usually characterized by that. However, I'm slow to accept you as the magistrate of what constitutes "solid advise" and what is considered forbidden opinion. Self- righteous, hypocritical talk aside, what makes you think you have the right to dictate to anyone else what they should or shouldn't say?

Furthermore, telling a guy its perfectly OK not to take responsibility for his own actions...that its entirely fine to badmouth people for a mistake that's your own is stupid. Yes I said it...its STUPID!!!! And just so there is no misunderstanding here. You might not be stupid, that's not what I'm saying. Your "solid advice" however, most definitely is. That said, you have every right to stand by your opinion...no matter how silly I find you to be.

I'm popping right out of this thread right now.

Thanks for taking another shot at me and actually sticking around to hear me respond. Very magnanimous of you.

Actually I'd expect a small shop operation to respond better than GC. I'm not saying that the original poster is right in any way, that deserves a thread on its own i guess. I'm just saying that webstrings could have done better:

unresonable costumer- "Hi there, my string are out of warranty but still I want a return."
webstrings- "Why, I can't exchange the set. I'll give you a discount though."

Again, I'm saying they could have done better than what they did.

The thread is turning more amusing than informative! From post one I guess!;)

LOL

'Two dollars! I want my two dollars!"

This situation stinks and I won't order from Juststrings now that I've heard about a complaint.

Then you'll never order from anywhere, because there isn't a business out there that hasn't had a complaint. Even ones that receive unwarranted complaints from dopes that can't be bothered to read a return policy and expect special treatment when they break it.

I work for a company that truly stresses CUSTOMER SERVICE. We are to do whatever it takes to keep the customer happy and right the wrong that may or may not have occurred.

That's great if you're in a huge business with lots of extra money. If you're running a small business and gladly paying for wrongs that didn't occur, then you'll be out of business soon enough.

I am empowered as a manager to give them a product, their money back, and anything else that I feel is necessary to keep the customer buying from us. If the customer leaves happy and feels that the situation was resolved to their liking...then you've got them for a customer for a long time in the future.

What's to gain from a customer that costs you more money than they give?

Another important thing to realize is that they will tell their friends, enemies, church, synagogue, work associates, etc...if they've had a GOOD experience or in this case a BAD experience.

My $.02!

I hope he does. Maybe all of those different people can knock some sense into him about following the return policy and not expecting the world to give you handouts.
