Actually, the 25th Anniv. model shape is called the 'Fusion' model but is a modified BMT. The Fusion shape is available on any of the BSR models as an option. Now that we have this Shape all trimmed up we want to keep it and make it available by request besides the two models we make the Fusion shape standard in.

love the fusion shape, but in the end, i need that little point that the BSR shape has. :p

Actually, that's THIS exact Bass here as well; Invalid Link Removed

Also, the wood came as a big thick block that yeilded only 3 top and back sets and we used that same wood for the wood page background here; Invalid Link Removed

I bought that for a special 7-string Bass for Melvin Davis and made a 5, 6 and 7-string from it. The wood was sold at a flat price and not by the board foot but from what we got out of it ended up costing about $75./bd.ft.

I am still wanting anyone with a BMT to respond to this post. I know there are not alot of them out there, but talkbass has the connections to at least surface 5 or 10.

Share a photo, a previous ownership memory, anything.

I know I grabbing at straws, but if you don't ask....

This is incredible, but there is a very rare Ken Smith BMT on ebay.

The person is asking almost $8000 for it and I think that is too much, but it will be interesting to see if he gets it. It also has the issue of it is a four string. It does however have that is has a beautiful macassar ebony top and back going for it with a tiger maple core.

It is an incredible bass. I think it is a bit overpriced, but let see how this one does. I have a feeling that if this one sells, then a lot of other BMTs will hit the market if you can get $6000 plus for them.

Hit the ebay link and tell me what you think.

I don't think any of our older Basses are worth more than our newer ones. Also, the ad stated b4 we moved to Perkasie. This is False. We were in Perkasie in 1987, moved to another building in 1989 across the same alley way and then 4 1/2 blocks up in 1998. It was in 1995 that we moved the offices and set-up to Pa. This may be his confusion. I messaged him already on this.

The current Elites or 15th Anniversary models can have the exact same features and our latest componants. Yes, a good bass broken in can sound better but it's not 50 or 100 years or 200 yeras like a Double Bass AND we are still making them.

Anyway, the Bass is worth what someone will pay for it.

I agree. Used basses normally sell for about 50-80% of the street price of a new model. I emailed the seller and told him that he should start the bidding between $3000-$3400 if he wants to sell it. It may get to around $4000 but not $8000, unless he wants to sell it overseas. He may get close to $5500.

Anyway, Ken thanks for your clarification on the PA move. I agree that quality tends to increase, but there is something special about those BMTs. The limited number and the rarity of non-maple tops would suggest that a premium is in order, but not a $4000 premium.

"I'd say 30% -50% off street is probably what you mean for USA models. At 80% off street I'd be buying them by the dozen. Of course there is always the possibility of someone who doesn't know what they've got, but those usually go too high, like this one.;)

He said 80% of the street value, not 80% off the street value. Big difference! :D

I don't mean to derail this thread, but it seems like it has evolved into a general discussion to some extent.

I have never had the pleasure of playing one of Ken's basses, but I have always admired them from afar, so to speak. I also had never heard one live before seeing Dave Matthews on the last two tours, where Stefan Lessard has been playing a six string on certain songs. I'm not sure which model it is, but WOW! What a sound!

I guess Stefan's exclusive with Modulus must have expired, because has been playing a number of different basses on stage now. But the sound of that Ken Smith is incredible! And it looks killer, too!

One of these days, I'm gonna have me one!
