Kia Soul ... or another suggestion

Only chopper I'm ridin' has both wheels in back.
Now THIS one I like, but my dogs will want to ride in the back.

I love my 2010 VW Sportwagen TDI. Certainly, a bit more expensive than the Kia Soul, but perhaps you can find a used one, although the TDIs retain their value quite a bit. I can fit my DB, it's stand, two Bergantino 1x12s, 2 EB and their stands, my Genz Shuttle 6.0, full size music stand and accessory shelf, gig bag, two reusable shopping bags of music, and a front passenger with ease. Plus, the low end torque makes it a lot of fun to drive. I got the panoramic sun roof; with the windows down and the sun roof open it reminds me of driving a convertible. On a leisurely hour-fifteen ride home from a gig last Saturday, I got over 50 mpg. The 2009 revised model of the TDI was the first clean diesel to meet California emission requirements.
That said, although I have not had any problems with mine so far (85,000 miles), it is a VW and will not necessarily have the reliability of some of its Japanese and Korean competitors.

2014 Subaru Forester
New ones can be had low 20s.
Pros: Lots of room, REAL AWD, great mileage (I average high 20s in town), and subarus are known for being reliable
Cons: Not the manliest looking crossover and you might get called a lesbian now and then, they aren't flashy (basic bluetooth and backup camera is about all the tech you get on the low trims)

As an aside My gal test drove a Chevy Spark ... That is a weird car. When you drive it it reminds me a lot of my old Mini van. It feels bigger than it is... until you look out the rear view. . .

My gal liked those too and chose the Kia simply because she has become brand loyal. I think she preferred the looks of the scion and it was great on the test drive.
