Knives!

I sent money for this work of art a few weeks ago. Ron Smith the maker is still working on mine. I have had a cheap repo since I was 13 mail order for 19.99 but this one I ordered is what they call battle ready. And I can own it in my state might be able to open carry if I wanted. Mine will have the dagger blade like the originals. The other blade is the Marine K-bar style.

I've blown well past my "only 4 or 5 knives" rule. Got a Benchmade 470-1 in the mail today. The safety on the 477-1 is better IMO but it's like twice the weight and this is really for a specific use case. I'm sure I'll get used to the location. Too small for EDC but, again, got a use case in mind and like the fun of assisted open and a safety. Great knife.

I am going to take the time to write a nice response by April Fools. I have never been much for knife self defense. I’d rather wack someone with my walking stick. I fear unintentionally hitting a big artery and causing a homocide that a DA decided was murder.

My friends Chas and John (brothers) make these. They are really nice, really well made, beautifully balanced.

Chas is an experienced industry pro with a lot of training and experience and he didn't like the designs from other makers, so they're doing it their way now.

If you like beautifully made knives, check out Fadir Tools. They make axes, carving tools, wood framing tools, and woods knives. I bought one of their bush knives a while ago. The knife is beautiful, and it came with a leather sheath that was equally well made and well thought out. It's a big knife, and it can be used as a hatchet. Which I did, to see what it would do. Then I checked to see if it was still sharp by seeing if it would shave the hair off off my leg. It did. It's a big knife, and my wife isn't a fan. So it lives down in my desk in the basement. They make several smaller knives that I would like to try out in the kitchen. Forged steel stays sharp far longer than just about anything else.

My dive knife is Benchmade. I'm not a fan of their handles so much, but their blades are fantastic.

I present to you a true classic, the venerable Buck 110. Dad carried one like this on our camping and fishing trips, construction projects around the home and other adventures. His had been sharpened by hand many times and the leather pouch was worn and formed to the knife by decades of use. I remember as a little kid thinking how huge this knife was. Surely it was capable of taking on all the dangers of the Colorado wilds! That knife made kindling, cut rope, cleaned trout, cut steaks and who knows what else. Long overdue adding this to my collection. It’s meant to be worn and used, so that’s just what I’ll do!

I bought my first knife visiting my grandpa in North Dakota when I was 6 years old. It was a Schrade Old Timer Sharpfinger fixed blade skinner. I studied martial arts after that with a Filipino sensei that introduced me to arnis/eskrima with sticks and bo staff as well as balisongs. I've been carrying folding knives since I was in junior high. I've managed to build up quite a nice collection over the years and love to swap out my EDC like picking a pair of socks.

I'm really into Japanese kitchen knives as well and have some really nice single and double-edge blades to use in the kitchen, as well as a lot of stones and sharpening supplies. I also have a number of straight razors as well. What can I say, I'm a fan of edged tools. :cool:
