Pretty self explanatory, do you prefer an eq with knobs or sliders and why? I recently picked up a peavey firebass 700, I love the way is sounds and how solid it feels coming from a crate bx-100 combo, but I don't like the knob-based eq. I feel like sliders gives me a better visual representation of my settings.

Depends upon the EQ. ;) If it's more than 4 bands, then GEQ. If it's less, or a parametric, knobs.
personally i dont think i'd be satisfied with only having 4 bands. i like to have a lot of control so i can make sure i can drop myself right in a tonal pocket that isnt filled by 2 guitars, vocals, and a drummer. i dont think "high, mid, low" could allow me to do that. plus it would make me feel like im using my old 10w 1x8 starter amp again.

I often feel like I'm using a starter amp.

Here's my main gigging rig, all tube Jule Amps Monique preamp (bas/mid/treble) with a 3000w power amp and 2x fEARful 15's:

And my backup, a Kern IP-777 tube preamp starter setup (bass/mid/treble).

I use my ears when it comes to sound. ;)

Some people are visual, show them something and they get it, tell them something and it is harder to take in. Sliders are visual. At a glance you see where they are.

On mixers I get used to either because they often have both sliders and a lot of buttons and knobs. The amount of real estate dictates how much of a control surface is dedicated to sliders.

On amps, where the settings are not complex, it doesn't matter. Plus, you don't set the amp based on the position of the controls, you do that as a guide and then fine tune it by listening. Like paper covers rock, auditory is more important than visual.

Maybe not part of the original topic, but one thing the drives me nuts with GEQ's is the bands are typically not set in places that work well for me - for instance, I used to have one where it went right from 500Hz to 1kHz... Really no in-between? I'd rather have a four band EQ with the bands placed in more usable locations for me (for example: 80Hz, 220Hz, 800Hz, and 2kHz).

The problem with sliders is that they are usually attached to graphic EQs. Every graphic EQ I've used (short of 1/3 octave units) didn't have sliders at the right frequencies. I MUCH prefer semi or full parametric EQ with is almost always knobs (save SWR which had a mix).
