Kringle77 sealed 2x12 video

Thanks for sharing your two sealed 2x12 builds and your ported 2x12 cab build.
From your videos, I hear a rounder low end on the ported cab (duh). I think I prefer the sealed cabs though, they both sound great, really punchy. Not sure if I'd find one sealed cab too lean on the bottom, hard to tell that from a video.
If you're ever inclined, I'd like to hear similar passages played back-to-back on the sealed and ported cabs, amp on the same settings.

Thanks! Handles arrived today so I have both cabs plugged into the genz 12.2 now. What a rig. Just need the grills. For anyone curious, I think these cabs sound like the ampeg svt210av cabs only with much more bottom end and more mids. Thats about the closest off the shelf cab and I can think to compare it to. Very similar to the nv610 but with more clarity. I tried all of the ways to set them up and find that I like them both on the ground, slightly facing in towards each other. Alot of punch to the chest and growly mids.
One of these will not play as loud as my hurtful, but a pair of just awsome. One of these with the hurtful is actually an amazing rig too. At some point I will bring all 3 cabs outside and use them together just because.

Koobie, I may do that. Yeah, the hurtful is bigger on the bottom, but not quite as forward in the lowmids. I've got to try the svt as well. My strings are getting pretty dull at this point but, maybe I could eek out another video or two.

I agree with your previous post. I found myself going back and forth (quickly) between the videos to get a sense of the sound differences between the sealed and unsealed, and even the CN610 video to compare. Really liked the sound of the sealed 2x12s!
I just listened to my hurtful vs sealed comparison video and think that the hurt sounds more impressive, and it actually is in person too. But, it doesn't have the compressed fullness in the low mids and meat of the bass tone that the sealed cab does. So, if you need light, loud, one trip awsomeness, build a hurtful. If you you must have the compressed, quick feel and punch of a great sealed cab, and have a stereo amp, build a pair of the sealed cabs. If you want to be a jerk, build two hurts powered by a shuttle 12.2 If you want to be a real di#k, build four of them powered by two 12.2 heads.
Today I actually hooked up the pair of sealed to the 12.2 and the hurtful with my 9.2 and ran them close to clipping the amps. If I ever need to fill in for motley crue, this is the rig Im taking! So thick, loud, clear, punishing. You can't even hear your own voice if you yell. It's like you are screaming into a vacuum. JGR would have loved it!

From that, sounds like my 2x500LF will fall right in the middle of those two in terms of dishing out lows / punch. Would you agree?
Considering the smaller box but heavier drivers, probably similar schlepage factor compared to the Hurtful, too.
Yeah, I agree to all of that. The hurtful run full out with have more aggressive mids than either. I am just really happy with the cabs.
For more comparisons I can say this
1) The nv412 would have alittle more low end and a more open, less compressed feel. Roughly the same top end but, the berg has a bit of gank up top that can get annoying when you boost the treble.
2) The nv610 is pretty similar to my cabs. Again, it has alittle bit of that gank. Probably similar total output or slightly more than my pair of cabs. But, it's got to be very close according to the displacement numbers. The numbers are even.
3) I prefer the compressed sound with alittle less low end that my cabs have and that the nv610 has. I feel that I finally got the best out of the nv610 and improved on it, for my tastes and needs.

I really like the sound of that sealed 2x12. The beta 12A is a bargain at $80 and just seems to have the right stuff for this cab. That's a great modular rig with the SM12.2 For a speaker that tops out just under 4kHz it has good balance and clarity. Both cabs on the ground cross-fired... way to go!
Chris, thanks for sharing your cab build ideas, these look to be very capable cabs that are also kind on the wallet.

In all seriousness, if anyone is interested in getting some of these cabs but don't already have tools and jigs, you would be further ahead and actually save money by having LDS build them for you. Don and I talk alot and if anyone wants specifically what I have, only built better and lighter by Don, feel free to have him call me. Chris

I just got done doing what I think is an accurate model of this in WinISD. If my graphs are correct, holy hell.
The Loud/$ ratio on this thing is truly stellar.
But, surely I am mistaken? I mean, I see a max SPL of OVER 120DB starting at 120HZ, rising to 130DB at 160HZ!
