I think the family of Mr. Kubicki will hang on to the fivers indefinitely. Where it sits, I don't know.
Its with his estate....IF it ever came up for sale I would imagine it would be a small fortune
My kubicki takes a few seconds for the sound to come out in active mode. It happens after not using the bass for more than an hour. I turn on the amp. Put volume of amp to zero. Plug my kubicki then immediately turn the volume up. Much like how a tube amp is. Is it a normal occurance. Can try it out?
BeautifulInteresting - so did you fill the hs holes? And just curious but why is the extension so long? The key factor was a cool design but jamming 5 keys on that narrow hs was a bit odd, especially since the B was spooled the opposite direction on the key. Your re-do would stir up the Kubicki purists, but you know.., who cares as long as it works -

Actually, when a neck dive happens with a Kubicki it is usually serious. It is an indication that the bass player has lost stability along the z-axis.

Thanks! Long story short - I'm a long time T-bird owner/player ('63 bought in '74 / '64 bought in '78) and Kubicki Ex Factor owner/player since '93. My '86 Ex Factor was fretted and I got a (new) fretless neck for it in '94 from Phil. In the late 90's I used this fretless neck and the tuner/bridge unit from a '90 FCS Factor I got cheap (someone replaced his great pu's w/EMG's!) and I built the 3-piece Koa body modeled exactly after my '64 T-bird. (same construction/dimentions w/ergo scalloping) I later fabricated a removable bridge plug for the FCS body and mounted a maple fretted/blk-blocked J neck w/standard Fender bridge, passive electronics and Seymour Duncan pu's. (the JFactor- I sold it years ago) Both can be seen on "The Kubicki Factor" fb page in their pic section.

Same guy asked if I had a fretless one to spare......just also sold him the LAST PRE-FENDER KUBICKI, which happened to be a red fretless ExFactor. Have a big property tax bill to hit this month. Had some other stuff listed but was only getting tire kickers. At least I know they are going to a good home.

I played one of the salmon coloured Factors at a local shop in the early 90's right after I bought my black '86, so even though I was tempted I passed. Used Factors commonly went for around $750 back then which is what mine cost. Phil said it was a late 50's Desoto colour. Only so many were produced in that scheme.

AFAIK, no new Factors of any kind are available other than a few exotic wood bodies that possibly can be built up from a very limited stock of remaining parts. Don't know the current availability, if any.
