Lady Gaga Isn't so Bad

I didn't know Italian was a race. ;)I don't see your picture posted here. :p
Regardless of looks, she's far more successful than any of us.

So when are you proposing to her? LOL. Let me remind you one more time, but this will be the last time.

In case everyone has forgotten what category we are in:

Bass Humor & Gig Stories [BG] (19 Viewing)
Bass jokes, musician jokes, gigs gone wrong...

Yeah. It's all been done. Madonna etc. She's as much a product of Marketing as I Carly and Victorious.

Yeah, but the difference between Ga Ga and Madonna is that Ga Ga makes herself accessible. Madonna just puts herself up on a pedastool and says, "look everyone, aren't i great?". Ga Ga is inclusive in her performances, Madonna is not as much. That is why Ga Ga is working and Madonna isn't at the moment.

Problem is they seem to gravitate toward the Autotune, Hollywood Promotionalized Artists, don't they. Now that's better taste.
That's better music than what professional musicians like. At that age kids still mostly want music to sound good and be about stuff they care about. Professional musicians, on the other hand, want music that will make them feel smart, sophisticated, and superior to normal people.

It is better music, but on second thought maybe 11-year-olds don't have better taste. After all "good taste is something boring people made up to keep the rest of us down". And that's 100% true.

Madonna could buy and sell Gaga ten times over. Madonna doesn't need to work.

I don't get it. i post a funny video and many think it's funny, then it turns into a whole discussion of Gaga's talents versus a variety of other female artists. The discussion turned to the other artists. I agree with someone Gaga isn't attractive, and some guy (who I basically agree with in the responses and we share a common like for the same other artists, ie missing persons) accuses me of not liking Gaga because she looks ethnic. Over and over I try to point out it's not supposed to have turned so serious, but he then accuses me of being childish. go figure.

The internet is often like parliament. There's a bunch of shouting that isn't really relevant, and then nothing happens. I for one think that Gag is simply pretentious. Not weird, not out there, and it's not that I don't 'get' her, it's that there's nothing to get.

Have you considered that most children don't actually have the cognitive capacity to appreciate music? Or that they might not know what sounds good, since the sum of what they've listened to is so incredibly minute? Or that children are highly susceptible to sensationalism and marketing ballyhoo?

If you want to get all angry about children's music in a bass humor thread, be warned - I know what I'm talking about. Playing actual children's music is arguably my main gig.

I'm not arguing it's the greatest music on the planet, but it is clearly superior in every respect to serious, respectable, artistic, sophisticated, deep music. But then again, what isn't?

I swear that the people that get pissed off the most at these 'no talent' people make millions seem to have some sort of jealousy or something going on. Not all the time, but there's alot of times where I'll get into stupid arguments like these, and then I'll check out their band to find out that it's all crazy 32nd note banality, strange chord structures, or some other highly technical junk that sounds just OK, but doesn't connect with a single soul.

There is an art and a talent to writing songs that connect with millions of people. If it's so darn easy and they're so incredibly talentless, then GO OUT THERE AND WRITE A BLOCKBUSTER HIT INSTEAD OF WASTING TIME ON THESE STUPID INTERNET ARGUMENTS.

Talentless?? Really? Whatever...:rollno:

This is good point. Just being a good musician means very little, because it has nothing to do with being popular, except amongst other musicians. You can be the best player in the world, and be starving. Alan Holdsworth had to sell a house he owned so he could make an album!

Popular does not equate to good (look at Britney Spears), but in the case of people like Gaga and Madonna, they are very talented at knowing how to make it big in the music business. I saw Madonna back in the 90s, and she was a great performer. I'm sure the same is true of Gaga. I'd rather see some other kind of band, but these people are not untalented, even if someone doesn't like their music.

I don't care for Gaga, but I'lll be the first to say she does have talent, but I don't think she's utilizing it enough, but I'm sure she's exactly where she wants to be, one of the biggest acts ever. So in that end she's successful, even if she could do more musically.
