Lady Gaga Isn't so Bad

Whoa. Watch who you're talking trash about.

Tiny Tim (Herbert Khaury) was an awesome trove of knowledge about old songs, many of them forgotten by everyone else. He was definitely a serious musician. Do not disrespect the man just because his success came with a goofy stage persona. Also, his version of "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy" is much better and more fun than the original.

Fair enough, but I grew up in the time he was popular and saw his 'APPEARANCE' on his appearance's of TV shoes, AND, everytime I ever saw him I saw no seriousness about him. What is he known for? Singing Tip Toe, Thru the Tupids and Marrying Miss Vicki on a TV Show, so do you think he wanted to be taken serious.

And someone said she was a serious musician?

Well I think she wanted to get attention, and she got exactly what she wanted. Sex sells.

But she is actually a good keyboard player and singer. There's some clip on YouTube of her doing a solo piano piece and singing before she was famous. It's kind of schmaltzy, but she has talent.

Not my cup of tea though. I listened through her whole CD and found one song that was interesting.

On the other hand, I like Madonna a lot more. Her first album was great at the time.

Hello, I'm Mik and I love me some Lady Gaga.. I love her songs, her vibe and I even bring my pedals to certain gigs just to get some juicy bass synth action when it's time for Just Dance or Bad Romance or any of her other hits I've been known to play in a GB band setting. There, I said it.. I groove on anything she does and as pop stars go, at least she's got talent and style.. Even if it's not 100% original.. At least she's interesting...

Heh, I think you took my post a little too seriously. Tiny Tim really did know a lot of old songs and had a good baritone voice. He was more successful at being goofy than at being serious, though, and I don't think that's a bad thing.

I think Gaga is great, too.

Yeah, but did they actually all get to play? Here's a thread for you:

http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f28/just-auditioned-lady-gagas-2010-world-tour-619987/

I auditioned for Kelly Roland... that was a bit of a zoo, but not that bad. They had you go up on a stage with an amp and a mini moog (part of the requirement) and then said "OK, impress us"... no band or nothing. :eyebrow:

You have to be able to play to backing tracks. Even though you are playing, they are adding stuff to make it sound like the record. There's lots of overdubs on Gaga's tracks.

This is funny, someone in that thread said:

Sorry to hear about your bad experience man. Lady Gaga is just a trend IMHO. My friends are all psyched-out about her; just a gimmick in my eyes.

Now look at the Wikipedia article:

Inspired by glam rock singers like David Bowie and Freddie Mercury, as well as dance-pop artists such as Madonna and Michael Jackson, Gaga is well-recognized for her outré and ever-changing sense of style in music, in fashion, in performance and in her music videos.

Her contributions to the music industry have accrued her numerous achievements including five Grammy Awards, among twelve nominations; two Guinness World Records;[4] and the estimated sale of more than 22 million albums and 69 million singles worldwide, making her one of the best-selling music artists worldwide.[5]

Billboard named her the Artist of the Year in 2010,[6] ranking her as the 73rd Artist of the 2000s decade.[7] Gaga has been included in Time magazine's annual Time 100 list of the most influential people in the world as well as being listed in a number of Forbes' annual lists.[8]

Trend indeed.

You can defend Lady Gaga all you want. My opinion is her music is boring and unoriginal but little girls buy her records mostly. I really don't give much credibiltiy to, Grammy's and awards cuz those people mostly want to be trendy (like when all the stars who never went to a hockey game in their lives all of a sudden started going because Wayne Gretzky was on the local team now. They used to pan the camera on all the stars and they were rarely watching the game. It was a social event, like the Grammy's and other awards. Heck, people like Rap too and many will defend it with their last breath, but I think it sucks and doesn't need talent. You know why I think that? It's because I see little kids all the time on TV and You Tube who Rap just as well as the big Rap stars. This is my opinion though and you know what they say about opinions. Besides, Lady Gaga looks just like the singer fromt he Tubes making her one hideous looking female. LOL! She also resembles Tiny Tim in the face. LOL. My opinion again.

I already said that. I was just pointing out that someone thought she was a trend, but apparently isn't paying attention to the music business.

I son't own any gaga music, and don't plan on it anytime soon.

I don't know about that. She looks Italian. I don't see a problem with that. Does she have to have a tiny nose and be generic looking? Nothing wrong with ethnic looking women. :D

Don't try to use the race card on me. It has nothing to do with being Italian. It's not just the nose. Tiny Tim is hideous looking even with a little nose, and lady Gaga would be too. There's a reason she has to lose the clothing (and cover up her face to invoke the, 'Sex Symbol' persona). LOL. Everyone's become way to too serious and defensive. Forget all the responses to my OP. Just look at the OP again then look at this, and mellow out. Not just you Lutherie. Man, it's getting to where you can't even use the Humor Category anymore. I posted it because i saw so many similarites between the two it was eerie. Now, I believe I've let Lady Gaga waste far too much of my time.
