Ok, so I'm definitely installing an Audere preamp and it will have the 6-way rotary Z-mode switch. The question I've got is - extra knob or stack bass/treble knob?

This is a bit like my bass would look with an extra knob for the Z-mode switch:

You also have to imagine mini toggle switches where the small black spots are.

I'd really rather have an individual knob for each rotary-type control but I don't want to clutter things up to much.

What do you think?

You folks know that I'm putting an Audere preamp in my 55-01 and now I'm also considering replacing the MK-1 pups with Norstrand Big Splits.

Are these pickups going to sound significantly better than the MK-1's in your opinion?

I would hope they would for $250 a set, but I've heard of people buying expensive pups only to have them sound just a little better than the pups they were replacing.

I just scored my Audere 3ZB preamp for $125 shipped, knobs included! Audere 3ZB, 4-band, black knobs.

I did want to go with the 6-way Z-mode switch but I just couldn't pass up that price since we were most of the way to perfect. Now I'll be able to afford to put Norstrand Dual Coil pups in there if I want.

The only problem I've got now is that this preamp needs four control holes and I've got five. I've got to work out a way to make the Z-mode mini toggle switch work in one of the potentiometer-sized control holes.
