I had a 55-01 and sold it awhile back. I miss that bass. I changed out the stock pre for a NTMB and it didn't change the tone at all, just added better pots. Someday I will buy another.

Huh, made a world of difference to mine. Got rid of the brassy edge & warmed it up... the aggressive growl of the stock soaps remains, which isnt necessarily a bad thing.

OH yea, BTW... I probably fit here just fine... but honestly, I am looking at making some sort of 5-StRing change.

I've got a Candy Apple Red fretless 55-01 with the NTMB preamp. It's a very versatile bass which can be very growly or butter smooth. It's really good on the B-string notes. It doesn't have as much "mwah" as some other basses, but it has just enough for my tastes. I like it because it can mimic pretty well a fretted that has treble rolled off.

Here's the pic.

Sweet and simple 55-01 in natural.

I had TI flats on it for a while but now I've got it back to DR long necks for more of a hi-fi sound.

It doesn't get that much play now that I'm neck high in my Warwick but I'm hoping I'll find a use for it sometime in the future.

Nice collection!!!!

Hey fellow -01'ers. I wanted to post a link to my MySpace page that I keep up to house/share my solo and demo work. Pretty much every song up there now was done with combinations of all my Lakland -01 basses, of which I have several. haha! Anyway, I thought my fellow -01 players might like to hear some of the tunes. All are stock MK-1 pickups and pre's. I've no desire to change them out at all... they cut well for my needs and have lots of presence!
