I can handle these, pretty much.So I have a few questions. Are there any major sound differences between the JO4 and DJ4? Also is the JO body the same size as a Fender jazz? I know the DJ is slightly smaller. Lastly what are the necks like on the Lakland jazzes? I have expereince with the modern c shape, found on American standards, the "thin" c shape ala Geddy Lee, and the 70's c shape.
It's never enough! How many threads has the infamous Pink JO been in![]()
I could use a nice solid body electric to complement my hollowbody guitar. Maybe I will check them out.
I can handle these, pretty much.
1. Prior to early 2007 (roughly), the JO and the DJ had different pickups--the JO had Fralins (more of an old-school, '60s feel) and the DJ had Aeros (the latter are a bit scooped, with a beefy low end and aggressive high mids, IMO). Since then, they've had the same Lakland-built pickups, so they sound very similar to my ears (check the sound clips of the JO for a taste: Invalid Link Removed) The DJ may be a bit brighter, perhaps due to its smaller body.
2. It's either identical or very close.
3. The JO's neck is pretty close to that of a modern Fender J--again, maybe identical. The DJ's neck is a little thinner (and has the "vintage" 7.5" radius), but closer to the JO than a Geddy, IMO. (The Geddy neck is too thin for me, but I'm fine on a DJ.)
Mine is holding up, but my neighbor's house has looked better

Something new on the LOG under Markus's Corner!
Can't wait to get her setup as a fretless! My Pedulla Pentabuzz is (so far IME) "THE" fretless sound I always wanted. But, I can't be switching scale lengths, string spacing, output volume, etc during a show. The Proto even has the same pups as my S.C.
Wow, Markus! Quite an honor. You should do a few photoshop mock-ups to show it off. That would be a great color for a Decade.
