The tort is a red tort and I LOVE IT!!!
Played the DJ at rehearsal last night and was the easiest 5 string I've tried to play. Several compliments from the horn section guys as well as the leader. No negatives, all good, and a few 'holy sh&%'s' when I dropped down to the "B".
We'll see how she does Sunday morning with the Praise Band!!
.. and now, somebody talk to me about audere / j-retro pre-amps. I want 1 volume control and not a lot of single coil hum...

I've had both. Using the 3 band Audere, VOL/Blend, w/the tone control on my JO5 and the single coil hum is pretty minimal. Tone wise I prefer the Audere to the J-retro, but obviously thats subjective. Can't remember how the J-Retro was w/the single coil hum.
Either would work for what you are looking for....I have not played an EAST in a bass, but I have played my JO5 through the pedal version and I loved it. I think I may add the pedal to my set-up and not mess with the onboard...just because sometimes I love me som passive bass and sometimes I want a little more.
The active pres don't get rid of hum do they? You are talking about not boosting the hum right?
Yes, .. if you turn one of the pickups down they go out of phase and get basically a single coil hum. I just need to turn 1 knob to adjust volume without getting all nasty
Ah, yes...I get it now. I was thinking about the hum while playing, not while turning down the volume.

Sweet! Doug's old bass?
I put a J-Retro in my first JO5 with Fralins and it was sweet. You get a little hum when panned, as to be expected. If you wanna pan a bit, roll off the highs just like you would roll down the tone on an active bass.
Otherwise, no extraneous hum if panned center.
If only they has the DJ in 3TB in a Skyline....I dunno, I may have to get one even if it is in a wrong color...lol...that bass is hott Terry...
I've got that one. Technically I have half of his old bass. Poon and I swapped necks so it's now it's Doug's old body, HaPpYfAcE's Chi/Audere upgrade and (I think) Dr. Drunkenstein's old maple neck....
Needless to say, it's a keeper.
I rather enjoyed the Audere. You won't get any "character", just more output and the flexibility of the boost/cut on the EQ.

The avatar is pre-maple. I'll get some new photos up soon. It's going in for a bone nut upgrade, and I'm probably gonna order a matte black pickguard from Roger. I can't get over how good it sounds. I have MTD Nickels on it, and with that Audere, it covers pretty much everything I'd need it to.
The burst bass is a Passive JO CS that wears Chromes. It look me a bit to really fall in love with the tone, as it sounded so good with nickels. But now I can't imagine having it any other way. Between the 2, my GAS has been Beano-d. Totally gone.
Gotcha. Couldn't follow the whole transition in a quick read. Def posts some pics of that jewel; esp with the black matte pg.
I have something on order and thinking of going all passive with chromes on my JO5. I gotta hear what all you Chi freaks (in my most respectful tone) are tripping on.
