So I was noticing since I took on another project, how hard it was to keep up at the pace I was. It got me wondering, what are you guys doing with your beautiful Laklands? Pretty much, what are your gigs? I'll take the leap first.... I have an original project that I play bass in, as well as all the sequencing and production, and part of the songwriting. I just took over bass duties for a working cover band that plays pretty much straight ahead rock- Zeppelin to Buckcherry. Not exactly my first choice, but it pays and it keeps me playing. And finally, I have a project studio that I mainly do production in, but occasionally cover bass duties as well.

Who's next?

My project consists of practicing when I can (not enough right now) and searching Craigslist for potential bands. I guess I'm one picky bastard.

Thats how i feel about the White/maple as well but seeing this bass with the Tort on it is swaying me from ordering a Black/RW today. ill be getting a tort anyway but Hmmmm, White is good.

It came down to the decision between white/maple/tort and black/maple/pearloid.

Both look amazing so I might just have to get the black one as well later on and string one with flats

I'll join the party. Here are my two Laklands. Both from around 1998-2000 (pre-skyline):

This is the first (and as far as I know only) Lakland with a matching SUNBURST headstock. The maple neck (which you can't see in the pics) and inlays were subtly dyed amber, too, to add to the overall warmth of color on this bass. Notice this is before the output jack got moved to the side and also (right) before a logo was put on the bridge.

This is an odd little beast. The body was made in the transition from the output on the front to the output on the side. It had both holes drilled. To accomodate this, instead of a blend control for the pickups, they each have their own volume. Also the toggle switch for the MM pickup is not the standard wiring (S-H-S). Instead it's S-H(series)-H(parallel), giving you varying degrees of grrrrrowl.

This is by far the thinnest neck on any Lakland I've played (and being the QC guy there for a few years, I've played hundreds) and is an absolute joy to play.

The knobs are in my shop somewhere. Last time I had this bass out, I was fixing a short in the preamp. I must've forgotten to put the knobs back on.

So, I went to the Osheaga music festival here over the week-end. I checked out the Decemberists and noticed that Nate Query's got a nice LPB JO. The sound guy'd done his homework, too. There was actual, audible bass coming from the speakers.

Yep, Nate's definitely a Lakland fan. I've seen him using a Decade as well. They played in Chicago last year with an orchestra at an outdoor pavilion, they sounded great!

For those who may not know, this pic was taken at the TB International GTG last Sunday. (Sadly, I think I was the only LOGer in attendance, though I did see a cherryburst 55-01 there.) This is a sweet, quilted blue 4-94 with the LH3 system that belongs to John (aka The Crusader), who organized the event. More GTG pics here.

This was the second of these GTGs, they're definitely becoming an annual event. The quality and diversity of the basses is particularly high at these--Lakland, Sadowsky, Lull, Valenti, a couple of newer builders, etc. And I got to try a Dingwall for the first time! (Stunning bass, and the fanned frets actually are easy to adjust to.) Plus, you get to meet TBers from overseas and all over the US. And there's lots of good German food and beer. I strongly encourage everyone to attend next year, if they can--it should be on the same weekend in August, details should be up soon. Also, John expressed a strong desire to have Dan come to the event. Keep your fingers crossed...

Well, I went to Purdue, but since moving down here to Alabama about a year and a half ago I found out you are forced to pick an SEC team....and typically it it 'Bama or Auburn, although I am close enough to Chattanooga, that there are a fair amount of TN fans too. I would say I am an Alabama fan as long as it suits me..lol. I get to go to games regularly through work, and it's always on TV. I am actually a DIE HARD CHICAGO BEARS FAN!!! I get a lot of weird looks for flying my Bears flag out front. Everyone see's blue and orange and assumes AUburn.
