Luke: kudos to you! I agree that all forms of church music need the low notes.....that is why I got into 5ers in the first place...then fell in love with them!

I am very weary about different tunings.....my mind is not quick enough to keep track of where the different notes are...I admire anyone who can!

BTW - before we side track this too far....there is a Christian Bassist page in the Miscellaneous section.

Well the lower notes was only part of the reason I shifted down, I also wanted to challenge myself, and think about what I am playing a bit more, as well as being a prep. for a 5 string, i.e having to fret my Low E, etc.

I know about the other Christian bassist thread(s?) but I was just wondering which of your basses you used.

Definitely TRUE! Chi-buckers seem to have an inherent bass boost.

So, I'm thinking of getting Chi's put in my US JO5. Should I not "molest" it? It is serial #100 if that means anything...I'm kinda on the fence about doing it. Opinions?

My #6 JO5 had the neck shaved down to roughly DJ5 specs by Michael Tobias. The previous owner knew Dan and is still a close bud of Tobias... unbelievable work by 2 masters!

I say go for it! Make it your own. If I can molest the BG5 prototype, maybe nothing is sacred, lol.

And, I had SC's Bart J/MM pups and pre replaced w/ Chis and LH3...

So, I say go for it too.

LOL, well I didn't go looking for it. He came to me with the offer, and I figured, hey, its the right colors...it MUST sound good...lol. Plus I had been wanting a fretless. This will be a good check for me to see if I really need/want one. I had the matching JO5 fretless and sold it to get the Glaub. I wish I had that one back. If this one isn't the one I want, there is a nice 55-01 fretless, used at BC. I will grab that and some nordies and an East U-Retro, and be in business!

I can play decently, on a lined fretless. But for me, unlined is IMPOSSIBLE!!

Meanwhile, over in the Sadowsky thread, they're working really hard on Part 8...

What is this "Sadowsky" that you speak of?

+1 The MM style pick guard really sets it off IMO, possibly more so than the standard Lakland pickguard.

I'd like to have another 55 w/ this look again. This particular bass had an Audere and Nordies. I didn't like it's tone enough to keep her.

my 55-02 came with them in the box, brand new from Bass Central

Yeah, both my 55-01 and Duck Dunn came with them.
I had a reply from Leo and he said the DJ5 should also have them and has offered to send me a set..
Good service although that was before i told him im in the UK ;-).
Im sure thats not a problem.

This past week has been a killer. I played the gig on sat within hours of picking the DJ5 up and now im on holiday until tomorrows gig. A whole week with hardly any internet and no DJ5

Ive also decided on getting a black pick guard as soon as i can. I was going for tort but fancy a change.

I see. I retired the Spector in favor of the Cirrus because it's a bit warmer and smoother sounding. The style of music I'm playing right now doesn't really call for that Spector growl. I guess my Cirrus is similar in tone to Ken Smith basses, jerk question but how would a Decade with Chi's compare?

Because of pickup placement, the Decade is deeper voiced, and throatier. I call it the "Voice of God" Dan Lakin calls the tone a "Produced P". Meaning a P bass tone, that's been mixed to perfection. My house has taken a hit to it's foundation after getting the Decade Very nice top with a throaty roar, and bottom for days.

I bet it guzzles the "gas" though (we call it petrol in Australia, hence quotation marks).

Yep, I see. But I was mainly wondering why they don't make the appearance of the P with the Chi technology match the other Chi-Sonics, as I reckon that would be a hit.
Is it wrong to say that a Chi single, Chi humbucker, and a Split Chi P style would all sound different?
I hope I'm not just repeating myself, lol.
