Pretty Close - My favorote Ray is an 83 and my 4-76 can sound just like it....

The pick up on a 4-76 is placed in the MM position. I have been meaning to record a groove with both, but recently all my studio time has been "work" I will try soon.

the 4-76 is an Awesome Bass and in my extremely humble opinion better than any Newer MM that I have played in the last 10 years....

He he he! Reminds me of a buddy of mine showing up with a new Jeep, right off the lot, and getting stuck in my driveway! He went of the edge a little and there is a very steep area. He would have ended upside down in my neighbor's yard. I had to winch him out:D

There was a clip that held the shift cable that broke, so I just got it fixed last week. If that grass would have been taller, I may have been stuck. At least I know I can call you for a tow :bassist: So anyway, the guys at work rag me about my non 4wd 4x4 jeep.

Yes, I was - my GAS morphed. Cheese go me hot and bothered for a Glaub, but then I started thinking about modding my Fender 57RI P with a Darkstar instead of buying another P (a project for another time). However, my Lakland GAS was not to be denied, and started thinking about a 44-XX. After sifting through the pages of the "01 Club" thread, I settled on a 55-01 for a few reasons...
- It's about damn time I put a 5-er in my stable.
- The 55-01 is ripe for modding (Nordy pups and pre for it are also on the way).
- It's unlike anything else I already have.

TB has always been a dangerous place for me to hang out. ;)

Just get a BG and have them put in a CHI-sonic!

The P has the same technology but the split format makes them "different" than the double humbucker type CHIs....did tis answer your question? if not...rephrase it...

as for posts...that is Greg's job...he tallies them every evening at midnight.

except MMs I see.........that is OK though because Dan loves (loved?) MMs.......he started out wanting to bring together the best of MM and fender....and Lakland was born!

I really like MMs myself....just no need to get one now that i have discovered Lakland....the 55-07 is a GREAT double H....now maybe I need a 5-76 to cover the H option....hmmmmm.

as I stated....mine get in rotation...the MOST I will bring on any Sunday is 2 -one fretted and my fretless.....no need for more than that IMHO....

Ok here comes one of potentially many n00b Lakland questions.

BG vs. DD I see on the Lakland site the BG is 1.75 at the nut and the DD is 1.5. So it looks like the typical J vs. P bass scenario for the neck. They both have the "New Lakland Hybrid Spilt Pickup" so is the neck pretty much the difference between the two?

I agree 100% - the P sits in REALLY well but it only has 4 strings!!!!

You will LOVE how the fretless sounds on the slower stuff.....just did "Mighty to Save" and a few others this weekend and the mwah was remarkable (not the playing but the sound!)

check out my post earlier on the 55-07 and how well it fits in....that bass is simply remarkable...

Well, a 1.75 is a wide P, vintage spec, most P basses are 1.625 at the nut.

Luke: kudos to you! I agree that all forms of church music need the low notes.....that is why I got into 5ers in the first place...then fell in love with them!

I am very weary about different tunings.....my mind is not quick enough to keep track of where the different notes are...I admire anyone who can!

BTW - before we side track this too far....there is a Christian Bassist page in the Miscellaneous section.
