Hey guys, I need your opinions.
If I am to buy a 55-02 new (looking for used), it would be standard, and either 3TSB or Natural finish. Opinions on colour?

Don't you mean Throwball?....the game where the emphasis is on THROWING and catching, as oppsoed to Soccer where you use your FOOT while kicking the BALL

ran into another friend this evening (we were watching our kid's football (Ferg - FOOTBALL, NOT Soccer) team lose their homecoming game!) and he and his wife are going to the concert tomorrow night as well...now I am really wishing I could go....
maybe I'll just buy the DVD when it comes out...better seats and cheaper...

Is it a 5 string?
Never heard of a 5er w/ deadspots, the added mass of the neck w/ carbon rods, headstock and additional tuner make deadspots all but impossible, at least that's what I've heard from some reliable sources.
The 2 basses that I've owned that had deadspots, were 4 string skinny-necked (jazz dimensions) basses w/ no reinforcement rods. Both had weak C notes (5th fret G string). One was so bad that only a sorta muted harmonic would ring out when I plucked it, like a piece of foam was under the string somewhere.
I think (if it's a 5er) that it's a bad string or that particular fret could be loose, causing a loss of some of the string energy.
Thought some of you may be interested in this.
About 4 months ago, I bought this lovely 44-02 from the TB Classifieds. I know a couple of you have owned this bass (Matty).
I looked far and wide for a solid do-anything bass to give my son for his 16th B-day(he's already got a MIM P). I wanted to keep the price below $600 and was leaning toward a G&L Tribute L2000 when this beautiful bass popped up on the classifieds for a great price(thanks T). More than I wanted to pay, but worth every penny. It's an '04 with the Barts.
I had a couple of months to play with it before his Bday and really fell in love with it. It truly is a "Swiss Army Knife" in the bass world, which is exactly what I wanted. He's in his high school jazz band but likes doing the rock n roll thing with his friends. Perfect bass for this purpose.
It was difficult parting with it, but I gave it to him for his B-day and, needless to say..... he was ecstatic

Make sure you try out ALL the furniture: that chair in the corner by the sliding door, the plastic chairs just outside the sliding door (give the Nashvillians sumpin to look at
), the desk and mirrored dresser can be fun too, heck even on top of the minifridge....all are good places to prop up that 44-02 for pics

After playing a 3 hr gig tonight, half of which I played on my Fender Hot Rod 4 banger w/ D-tuner........
I too have regained appreciation for the 4 strings. They're so easy to handle. But, I still can't get that thing to stay in tune consistently when I flip from D to E and vice-versa
. I've heard that the nut slot can be lubed w/ graphite. Anybody know if that'll help?
I searched the forums and couldn't find anything on this. I just got a Lakland Skyline 55-02 w/ the Bartolini pups. (as some of you know)I'm super excited and in love with everything about this bass. There are many tone options so I wanted to get an idea of how you guys are using the pre-amp on this bass.
Haven't messed with the mid controls or the pre-amp gain inside the bass. Thinking about upgrading to the new Lakland pre but don't think it's necessary, I got a great tone easily when I used an Ibanez SR-506 with Bart Mk-1's.(Don't bother to tell me to use the Ibby instead of the Lakland) Any suggestions?

You won't need the LH3. If you already "love" the bass, then all you need is some time finding your sound w/ the Bart pre. I'm a total tone moron, I'm a one setting kinda guy. Luckily all my babies sounded exceptional as they are, and the most I've had to do is boost the bass on my 55-94 occasionally.
If it were me, I'd probably try what the smarter LOGers tell ya and/or call Carl at Lakland for some internal setting suggestions.

OOOH, that reminds me... I need to play around with my Fat Fingers. I've got both kinds: the smaller guitar FF and the bass FF. They have an affect on the voice of a bass, and are fun to experiment with, even if you don't need 'em for a deadspot problem.
I haven't tried them on my current 4 strings, but I know that they had a negative affect on my Lakie 5ers tonewise, at least to my (damaged) ears.

There are instructions to tuning using the detuner that come in the box. I didn't really have issues when doing it, but that was a while ago. One thing, any time you change a string's tuning that drastically, there will be some affect on the other strings. You drop down and some other strings may go sharp a little bit. It was a trend I did notice... and tuning 75+ instruments a day for the young string players, you notice some of these things.

Ive since put some Elixirs on and its a bit better. I really didnt think it was the neck (and the fret looks fine).
It does seem that the notes are a bit quieter around that area, gonig towards the headstock but its not a great deal.
Im still getting used ot the Jazz tone but putting the Elixirs on had made a nice difference to the tone. Im a lot happier now although i think the NP5 will still be going on.
Just a quick setup question for anyone. The Elixirs are the same gauge as the Laklands but slightly higher tension. The bass feels different now. Still very playable but i feel the action can now go down a bit. My question is should i tweak the truss rod as well as there is now slightly more pull from the strings. And if so i guess there might not be a need to lower the action.
EDIT: Just checked the measurements on the Lakland website and i did tweak the truss rod a bit. Seems to have helped. The action is still the same as it was before but im guessing as im using higher tension strings i can go a bit lower.
I might look in to getting some Lakland nicks for the next string change. I used them on my 55-01 and loved them. And they are nice and cheap ;-)
Another request. Does anyone have a pic of a DJ5 without the scratch plate? I just wanted to see what it looked like underneath.

I'll let him know! No, he's a bassist first. Started a couple years ago. Then we bought our daughter a guitar (she played it a couple times)...now he plays guitar now too.
