CS stands for ChiSonic, a kind of Lakland secret brew pick ups:

BUT Lakland is a custom shop so you can drool and still not be close to the limit =) however, they are not planning a 6-string bass so far :-)

oh i thought it meant custom shop since Fender CS = Fender custom shop. d'oh.

by the way, do the newer USA JO4s come with Hipshot Ultralites? i noticed that many of the older models don't.

also, would you recommend the Chi-Sonics for a vintage 60s sound?

edit: i just realised that the Hipshot Ultralites are only offered for the Skyline JOs. does the extra weight on the headstock affect the balance since it gets heavier, and the swamp ash body is lighter than an ash body?

I think Ultralites - Hipshot original or licensed - come stock on all 5-string basses. That was done to compensate the weight of the neck

I guess the Chi-Team will recommend the Chi-Sonics for anything and everything :D or in place of everything
From what they've written, the CS-J is like a jazz on steroids though; so, I think the answer would be "vintage sound on steroids", he he =)

According to the CS guys, you don't even need a bass...just a bag of CS pickups. Markus only purchased basses to put the pickups in so he could display them. When he goes to a gig, he just takes a bag of pickups. Personally, I am waiting on the CS to come out in 3TB.

I tell ya, I was very skeptical about the chi-sonic pickups before I tried them. So far, so good. I have one bass with chi-sonics in it and it owns completely. It's such a full sound that can growl or thump. I'm very excited for my humbucking DJ-Sonic bass

I wrote 'CS' on each of the basses on my LOG shirt. Now I don't even have to take an actual bass to gigs anymore. I just stand there wearing that shirt. Sound guys love it.

I'm having them surgically implanted in my body, so all I need is my rig. But where they're going, makes it so I can only play adult only venues...and where to plug in...hum...

Yep...chisonics are the real deal! I'm not talking out me bass hole here!:-)

My first Lakland is in Massachusetts :hyper:
Now just waiting for the "Out for Delivery" update - it is scheduled to arrive tomorrow and I am home all day. :D

LOL. The bass itself is smokin', the color I'm just OK with.

The 12" combo is 50 lbs. I brought mine to the GTG at that church in January, I'm pretty sure you tried it. That sucker is gig-worthy even without the second cab!

yeh - I did try it.....just you know me....."amps mean nothing since I play direct"......but you know how things change.....you are getting to like SG (admit it!!!) and I MAY have amp-envy - just a little

i have a question, i noticed that some of you guys have CS basses. how exactly does Lakland's custom shop work? i love my Skyline JO4 and all, but i want to see if Lakland CS can come up with a Lakland that i can spend my nights dreaming about, lol.

ha ha ha!!! oh......CS stands for ChiSonic pickups....it is Lakland's proprietary (AND AWSOME!) pickup...they are availabel in either single coil (like a J on 'roids) or in double humbucker (switcheable to single coil) - read earthquake producing!

as for "Custom Shop" - pretty much any US Lakland is semi-custom (paint, pickup, pick guard etc).....

dream and dream some more.....but WARNING... CS can wake you up!

go on here for clips:

try to Joe Osborn 4 CS, the Decade, or the Hollow body for some CS sounds.....
