Seriously though...I have played through the Ampeg before. It really doesn't compare. The mesa has a really tube warmth to it. You crank the gain and those tubes will really grind. The mesa also puts out a lot of low end. I have never had to turn the bass down on a rig before, but with the mesa, it can push too much low end if your not careful. The walkabout is the closest I have seen to an all tube head.

The ampeg sounds decent, but IMHO the B-Series ampeg in not in the same class at the Walkabout. I would say it is like comparing a US JO to a MIM Jazz.

With EB Slinkys, regular scale, I have 3 strings through the body and the 2 bottom ones through the bridge. Some string company, like La Bella I think, even recommended it this way to improve sustain on the high strings and clarity and definition on the low strings. Personally, I think it is a dud, but that's what you can tell others (and let them try their basses outplay your Lakland, ha ha! :spit:)

Yeah...personally, I don't think it makes a difference which way they are strung tone wise.

I think I'm drawn to the coarse Tolex and the white piping around the grill cloth. I'd love to hear one. I am very happy with my GK Fusion though. Nice to have a whole channel preset to play with some good tube overdrive. Motorized knobs are fun at parties too.

BUT...that rig is just cool as hell!:bassist:

I am very tempted to check out the matching 15". If not, I may go the powerhouse route. I am a big fan of the powerhouse 115's. Maybe grab 2 of those in 4 ohms each.

I would love to check out a fusion....but I would say the tube overdrive on the walkabout is killer!

errr... the same price rates corresponding to the comparison?

I'll try to snatch me a mesa after I'm done with two new Laklands... I think... well, Laklands for sure
