LAKLAND OWNERS GROUP #27

Good news for everyone (except my GAS).
In about a month or so, I will be trekking up (not literally) to Sydney to try out my first Lakie, I just need to finish these final exams for school, overrated I say.
Anyway, the store, Bass People (excellent store), has a number of Laklands, among them:
4-94, 44-02, 44-01, 55-02, USA JO, USA DD, and a Skyline BG.
I'm looking forward to it. Hopefully I will be able to go wild (figuratively speaking) and play lots of nice basses.

Actually, it's only really good news for me isn't it? Seeing as most of you would of already played these models...grrr...
Better late then never at least.

Seriously though...I have played through the Ampeg before. It really doesn't compare. The mesa has a really tube warmth to it. You crank the gain and those tubes will really grind. The mesa also puts out a lot of low end. I have never had to turn the bass down on a rig before, but with the mesa, it can push too much low end if your not careful. The walkabout is the closest I have seen to an all tube head.

The ampeg sounds decent, but IMHO the B-Series ampeg in not in the same class at the Walkabout. I would say it is like comparing a US JO to a MIM Jazz.

I have a 15" empty combo cab I bought off of TB. So I can stack the two, or slide the Walkabout into the 15 and just play that. There's definitely more low end, but it sounds like you may not need that. Also, with the head in it, it's a 63-lb combo and pretty bulky. (The 15 cab is wider, of course.)

Dennis, I love the Walkabout, but I've heard Mesa's overseas pricing can be pretty brutal in some places. It's not especially cheap here, but their gear is extremely solid (overengineered, as they say). Good luck!

Actually, other than an HB and JO4, I've not had the luxury to play any Lakies except the ones I own. And, I either bought or committed to buying those before ever playing them.

Man, I'm dying for a BG5!!!!

Yeah, I'm still blown away (figuratively and LITERALLY) by the 2 Epifani UL112 cabs that I got from Markus!

I love pranking my friends when they wanna help me pack up after shows. I tell em to be careful, the cabs are super heavy. Then laugh when they jerk em off the floor like they're made of balsa or something, hehe.

I'm an OCD mf'er when it comes to that...all thru the body or the bridge....aggghhhhhh! I think thru the body sound and feels better:bassist:
