LAKLAND OWNERS GROUP #29

I love my 2 Chi-d up Fivers, but I'm gonna try this one as a straight passive P with flats. The pickups and preamps go away, and it's getting routed for a Nordstrand NP5 in the BG5 position (3.25" from the apex of the Lakland Bridge). All that work will be covered up by a generous pickguard. There's always room to put a BigSplit in later if I want, and the fine folks at Nordstrand say they can wind one to match the NP5.

It goes in on Monday, and I should have it back 7-10 days later. Pickguard will have to wait until after that.

Not sure if they changed it on the production models (Dougie, can you verify on yours?), but on the BG5 proto, it's 3.5" from the apex of the bridge to the nearest edge of the NP5.

Man!!! There are some beautiful Laklands in the classifieds right now. Makes me feel so po':atoz:

I have a question. Has anyone here sent a bass to Pat Wilkins for a refinish? If so, how was the overall experience? Also, if you have, can you PM me a price? Thanks.

Due to the massive influx of Laklands for sale right now, I'm questioning their awesomeness.

It seems they're nice basses, but not nice enough to keep.

Opinions?

MOST people are selling them to buy a DIFFERENT Lakland.....

yes - they ARE "nice enough to keep".....I will NEVER play another brand again.....but that is just me.....and many others around here....

if you want one...this is a great time to pick one up under "true" market value

Ah-ight. Making it's only appearance as an 55-01, here it is my new, old stock '08 Indo-Plek:

There's quite a bit more sparkle than the pics show. I am really, really digging the Inca/Rosewood combo. This is my only RW bass. Pickguard is most likely gonna be White Pearloid, keeping the black knobs.

I gotta tell ya, I'm surprised. I fired it up with the Lakland Steels that come on it, and this little sucker POPS! Great frikkin' snappy tone! the neck is plekked, so it plays perfectly like all my others. It almost makes me rethink sending it off to the chop shop. If this is Lakland's most cost effective bass, it's gotta be one of the best deals on earth!

congrats!!! yeh - that color combo is really nice.....the first Lakland inca silver/RW combo I saw was a guy in a Dave Matthews cover band.....I believe it to be a 55-02 or a 55-94 (although I did not know much about lakies back then)...

as for "cost effective"...you betcha...I played my first -01 series basses this last weekend and was VERY surprised....they do not feel "cheaper" or sound and "worse" than an -02...just different....and the quality is still 100% Lakland!!!

SURELY YOU KID, NO?? But, just in case, here's an :eyebrow: for ya.

Here's the deal (sickness). They're so D@*N good that we can't get enough!!

It works like this (at least for me):
1)We buy more Laklands than we can possibly use, even if we played in 14 different bands of different genres AT THE SAME TIME.
2)Another Lakland catches our eye, maybe it has a BnB neck or a different set of pups............ it doesn't matter, WE'RE ADDICTS!! (Lately, I've sorta been after rare one-of-a-kind lakies.)
3)We sell what we can to fund the next Lakland purchase. Sometimes that means letting a lesser-played Lakie go :crying:.

I currently have 4 Lakies and enough spare parts to build a complete 55-02, just need a body........hmm.......

:hyper: the search begins for a donor :hyper:

.....getting back on track..... I've been repeating this cycle for over 2 years now, since getting my first 55-94. I've traded or sold 3 5ers IIRC, and am kinda stuck at the moment cause I TRULY love the ones I have, but I'm watching like 6 that are for sale/trade.

:rollno:
:D
:scowl:
:help: totem of Lakland addiction

Well put JJ!!!! VERY well put! Unfortunately, all of us are the same in that respect.....

as for the 55-02 set up......go for it...maybe Leo can find an orphan body for you....:ninja::hyper:
