LAKLAND OWNERS GROUP #29

Well actually not sure they would sound the same. So I'd have to take that into consideration. The singles sound different that the humbuckers. So not sure....If I had one humbucker ChiSonic and switched to single coil mode, I'd want to be able to boost the lows, and with a passive bass, I would have to do it on my rig. Plus I would get hum, which isn't a huge deal. So I'd have to think about that one....maybe straight Single Coil Chisonic like a DS'd P bass....not sure.
On a related note, does anyone else think that the following is uber cool?
I reckon that would look excellent on a BG or DD

My BG5 is my first P, and I TOTALLY get what you are saying! I love the simplicity, and the fact that I turn up the volume and there is that tone that sits SO WELL in a mix!!!! And a pic just because....

if you listen to the sound clips of the neck ChiSonic from the J-Sonic and the Dunn bass, they are nearly the same. I had a Lakland Glaub with their pickup and it was monstrously awesome. I have a CallowHill on the way that is loaded with a lakland pickup. I'm looking forward to it. If I want a different tone, maybe I'll go for the nordy.
I've been playing with my DJ this morning, pumping the neck pup only pretty loudly through my bass rig, and it just sounds absolutely wonderful for me. I'm really wanting to avoid falling to GAS. I've not been disappointed with the DJ at all when trying to pull of a P bass tone. It works great, perhaps a bit more hollow than than a vintage P bass, but still...

Now this is where the ChisSonics come in. They don't sound hollow at all. The neck soloed on my JO-CSs is super thick and rich. One of the best sounds coming from a bass in my opinion.
Agreed, but it's missing a bit of top-end. The Dunn audio clips with the new Lakland P sounds perfect to me. The JO with the Lakland pup also sounds about perfect, which is what my DJ sounds like. You can hear the difference between the Dunn and JO in the solo on the "Jazz" sample. The Dunn is a bit more focused up top since the treble coil is not quite as close to the neck compared to the JO. It's still very subtle.
No doubt about it, I just WANT a CAR Dunn! Justifying it is usually what gets me in trouble! I've made some good justifications and some bad ones over the years. I just really took a beating on the Fretless 55-02 I bought then sold. I don't want to make a similar mistake here. I know I'll love the bass. It is just a P bass. And it looks beautiful. I'm just afraid I'll wind up only using my DJ since it does what the Dunn does plus more.
Another part of me wants to pickup another DJ and string it with flats as that would give me a LOT of other options!
I don't think you're going to find anyone around here that will tell you NOT to buy another Lakie, lol. I don't think you'll regret it!

JUST BUY THE THING! lol My Skyline Glaub was one of the best investments I have made. Just something special about a P bass....period
To my ears you don't loose top end. It is just smoother and more complex. Not as harsh with the ChiSonics.
