Looks like T.O. is going into the studio right after Thanksgiving, even though we haven't played together in over a month. We're gonna use our free day (part of our prize for winning the BOB back in Sept). The engineer is a pro, and likes everything done "his way".

What do I do when he tries to get me to use a pick, or worse... play one of his basses??

I'd try his suggestions, and then offer your opinion backed up by rational thought and logic.

There's a reason you're bringing your bass and style to the session, but there's also a reason he'll make suggestions. Try them and be objective.

Awesome! I love my LPB Glaub.

I have been researching and I "think" that there were a total of three runs of LPB. I think the jazz pickup option was stopped by the third run so that is probably a second run.

It is only the second factory jazz option that I have seen in LPB and only the third total. I believe Basspraiser said his was done after the fact at Lakland so it doesn't count.

So I am assuming that was chosen as a factory option...if so then it is a rare bird indeed.

And a great looking bass.

Thanks bro! It was a last minute spur of the moment kinda of decision, but I think it will be worth it. I am going to drop some flats on it and give it a whirl, along with a few other mods. New P/G, etc...I know it has a matched set of Fralin pick-ups too....I am anxious to see how they sound together, especially with the separate tone controls. I know the Fralin in my current BG is incredible!

What color guard are you thinking?? I like the aged white/LPB look but the stock pickguards always looked a tad too glow in the dark for me. I am going to get a new mint guard from Pickguardian because he is the only one that does the correct 60's bevel on the edge. His mint color is amazing and almost looks like a darker parchment.

I just love these basses! They have subtle differences, but both sound great - and of course play great. The GK rig behind them is my gig rig (I don't play HUGE venues). 500W bi-amped through 2 12' Neo drivers. It moves some air! Peace in the groove... Greg

So Chromes don't sound old school? How would you describe the differences? Just looking for a good flats tone. I figured they would all sound kind of old school. I had TI's on my DPLEII and liked them. Just looking to try something different on my JO and a lot of players here really seem to like the Chromes.

Thanx! As you know (from another thread) that I really admire your basses - just perfect. Feeding and clothing three kids, I feel really blessed to have these DJ's. I just love playing them. Last night at band practice, I was just thinking about how the tone was so great (on the white one) when our singer said, "Dude, that bass sounds awesome!"
I'm looking forward to the day I go to Chicago (I live less than 2 hrs. away) and arrange to have my dream bass built.

Chromes are great. They have a more modern sound until they really break in, and have a lot of midrange fundamentals. They are a little high tension for what I like, but nothing crazy...but way higher that TIs. JO Flats give you more of that thump...more old school tone right out if the bag. LOVE the feel and tension of these. Still a decent midrange.

Thanx! I love my GK rig. I've had the 700RB-II for a year and a half, and I'm still dialing in my tone I guess. It keeps getting better and better. The cabs have been great. They move some serious air, and sound clear in the mids with plenty of bottom end presence. Plus, they weigh something like 39 lbs. each. I call my rig, the "old man rig". Very easy to pack in and out. I might swap one of the 112's for a 210, just for fun, and see what happens.

Very cool...still on my LLLOOONNNGGG GAS list. I was looking into the GK's when a deal on the MESA's came up. I do not regret it at all, but I would still love a pair of the new NEO 112's or maybe even the new NEO 115's. The 15's look cool and are small and lightweight. I would love to hear them.
