Think I still have them around somewhere. I'll see if i can dig'em up. They weren't very p-like though, from what I recall. Actually, there may be an interesting variation possible there between those and the latest doude mockup.

nope.....not yet....been put on a "budget" by my wife...she is reeling from this bass, the redeux, and the LOG bass

I would love to have a 5-string HB ... but for me the fingerboard would have to be unlined ebony.If only it was a 5 string, fretted, Dark Starred and 1/3 the price! Other than that, it's major GAS attack!
That (eBay HB) had nice woods. I know I've seen pics of sunburst skylines where the sections in the top were glaringly obvious. And didn't sunburst skylines used to have black backs ?

Hehe. I don't blame you guys, but I gotta tell you...both Carl and JP told Doug and I, at separate times recently, that Lakland tried building a five-string HB--but the B string sounded like total mud.

HBs don't appeal to me at all, maybe if I was in a cover band that played some old Beatles and such. I can see why a B would sound crappy... they seem to need a more meaty, solid foundation to sound off from.
I wonder if it truly was muddy, as in, unpleasant to the ears, or if it was more like 'that's more bass emphasis than anyone would want to buy in a bass' ?Hehe. I wonder if moving both pickups bridgewards would help ? And/or adding a piezo bridge ?

I really like mine with flats and a pick....actually very funky...but not for everything for sure.

Having owned at least one of nearly all Lakland Models...except for a Scheff....IMHO the Lakland Hollowbody is the most underrated Bass they make. It is way more versatile than it is given credit for, it really shocked me when I had one, all the the different sounds I could pull out of it - including a wonderful slap tone!
Having said all that, I think the one on the Bay is about $150-$200 too expensive...but man I want it!

Let me put it this way--in describing the tone, I believe the word "fart" was used by someone.

This is why I'm being patient with mine. Hard to see me needing a traditional HB tone for the music I'm generally interested in, but I'm only beginning to explore the possibilities of this bass.
Also, I agree that the eBay one is pricey. Citing the list price is always a dodgy move, especially when it's higher than the one listed on Lakland's site.
