Hahah... I have a problem... once I visualize something in my head, I have to get it out or I'm obsessed with it the rest of the day. Denis' challenge that a P-style guard hadn't been done well on the 55's (and looked right/good) was inspiring too. :)

Anyway, glad you dig it... Markus contributed some nice enhancements too.

Yeah, I've always thought (and pretty sure I've read luthiers and others discussing this subject around here and elsewhere) that veneer tops do little to nothing to affect the sound of an instrument. I'd guess that the glue to attach it probably has more affect on tone than the actual veneer if the veneer is less than 1/16" thick. The thicker the veneer, the more likely it would seemingly have some affect... or so one would think.

From what I remember...this one is thicker...but not positive. If it's punchier, and has more highs...

I think he was talking about the whole concept, but I do like the pointed lower horn for sure! Nice touch!

Hate to rain on your parade bro, but Markus designed that guard a little over a month ago. He's the friggin' Flash Gordon of mockups! Lol... if he had a band and a real job... :hiding:

Do you still have a mockup of that P-style one you did for my silver 55-01 P?

Roadkill - I can tell you from experience that the Plekked necks are better than the "hand finished" korean ones. perhaps some were perfect, mine wasn't - it was within spec but didn't allow for a really low action. the Plekked one i now have IS perfect. The skills you talk about weren't used on the Skylines anyway - they were perhaps touched up in the States, but not levelled and dressed. With the Plekk machine, used as it is now,you can guarantee a perfect set of frets, allowing the action to be as low as you want it.

I can't now see what difference there could be in playability with the US models - the Skylines are as good as it gets, and my DJ5 plays as good as or better than any bass I have had.

I l aways thought that the Deluxe versions equaled a Maple Fretboard, but according to another source they're referring to my bass as a deluxe because the top looks to be quilted maple even though the FB is Rosewood. Please enlighten me.

deluxe means a maple cap on ash body without connection to the fretboard choice
